Winter Camping, GWNF, Virginia, March 22

Winter camping and trail repair trip. March 22 and 23.

Details coming in slowly about the trail repair within the Switzer Dam area, but a few of us will be camping out. We'll be camping at the "Deer Fields" just off the main road behind the Dam. I think some of the River City Trail Runners have camped here a few times and it's been the location of the Back To Basics event lead by the Blue Ridge Land Rover Club.

Weather could go either way; might be 70 degrees, or we could have 2-feet of snow. Might even have one of each like we did at Crozet two-years ago.

i actually might try to make it, sounds like a good short trip.

as for trail repair...could i bring anything that would be helpful? ie tools, etc?

If you follow Rt.33 from Harrisonburg, go about 3/4's of the way up the MTN until you see a turn off to the left - that's Switzer Damn Road. Follow the gravel fire road past the damn, across two streams, and look for a torn-up field on the left. That's were we will be.
