Blown up center diff LT230

I just picked up a stocker 97 D1 and the CDL linkage was seized. After unseizing it, I locked the CDL and BANG, CLUNK...all sorts of noise and tooth skipping going on underneath. I drained the transfer case and all sorts of bronze and chunks of metal came out. When the CDL was unlocked, it drove normal. HI and LO worked fine too.

Here are some pics of what broke. One of the cross pins disintegrated inside the center diff.

So question on my replacement LT230...

Do most people leave that H-L interlock solenoid out? Or do I cut the nub off the end of it and leave it in there?
They go bad and since you have the T-case out it's a fairly thing to do. Even if you do it with the T-case in place, is not that bad.

When I took mine out, I removed the pin and filled the solenoid with The Right Stuff. I left it there to cover the opening... I dunno what others have done.

Yeah I already got a used TC thats in nice shape. I plan to right stuff all the covers, replace the 3 seals, and replace the intermediate shaft o-ring. My original box is toast....the pin broke apart and tore up the front housing pretty bad. All the bearings are shot and there is a nice thick layer of goo all over the place.
