    Odd Steering Noise - Help?

Same thing happened a year ago. I replaced the power steering pump and the problem went away. I figured out it was the Steering Pump, when I (engine off) was able to push and pull on the pulley (in and out). I took the old pump home and tore it down to see what the problem was and found the...

Land Rover Cape Fear=shitty service dept.

I will chime in again about CFLR. Sorry Beach and Chilly I have good experiences with CFLR and Cape Fear Imports with Joe. But the difference is, LRCF is for very specific repairs, that are beyond what I can or will perform myself. The Service and Parts Staff patiently listened to my diagnosis...

    Drive shaft greasing

Rather than trying to fix something you really cannot, go to NAPA and get four U-joints for $17.00 each and install. Problem goes away and peace of mind follows...

Misfire Vehicle Speed Sensor Disco 1

I had my VSS replaced today. The old one has the part number AMR 1253. The new number is YBE100540. The mechanic said that when he unbolted the sensor, it fell apart. I saved it for information purposes. The rover ran smooooth...

Misfire Vehicle Speed Sensor Disco 1

I thought of the that also - about excessive heat on the wire. The aluminzed shield is broken off just forward of the muffler, the rest is intact. After I replace the VSS, I am going to heat protect the pipe in that area to stave off future problems, I hope. Mine does not leak but I think the...

Misfire Vehicle Speed Sensor Disco 1

I had my Actron 9145 readily available so when the engine started shuddering, I could attach the moniotr and check for the problem source. Low and behold, I saw a disparity between the Spedometer and the Vehicle speed, generally around 8 MPH on the low side (sensor). Just before the engine...

    lots of codes, including misfires..

I attached my Actron 9145 and *waited* for the next 'shuddering' of the engine above 50 mph. Went through the PIDs to find the code that was changing when the shuddering occurred. Well, I found that when the shuddering started, the vehicle speed shot up to 115 mph and when the shuddering...

Poor LR servive, is it just my dealed or yours too?

LR Wilmington NC I like the people at the Wilmington NC LR. They have treated me well, and since I am a DIYer they have been helpful with some info to assist me. I will only use them AFTER I have checked out the problem and determine the skill level within myself. Go Cape Fear LR...!

    Fading Plastic...

Permatex Dielectric Grease A while back, while changing my spark plugs, I was putting the Dialectric Grease in the rubber plugs and on the wires themselves when a thought occured to me (just one of many). I took the grease and applied it to one of the bumper corners. Let is sit on the surface...

    Sunroof Leak - Imagine that

Rotten finisher on friends '96 Rover I looked at a friends rover yesterday at work and seen the rot on the passenger side. She is going to ask LR Tuesday about replacing the finisher (I found one for about $40.00) Otherwise, I will probably end up putting #M WindoWeld in the gap. Additionally...

    Sunroof Leak - Imagine that

I have had the same problem with the windshield and the sunroof. [Email traffic below, trying to find a rubber seal] Windshield: I had a hole in the rubber finisher and sealed the whole top of the Rover using 3M WindoWeld - some real sticky black shit. I put enough in the gap (when you pull the...

    Got COSTCOed

When I bought my D1 last year, it was installed with Dunlop Radial Rovers, an "S" tire type. The best I could tell there was 50k on the tires. I wanted "H" also, but found them to be difficult to find, without ordering. So I went with Michelin's. I then raised the tire pressure 4psi per forn...

97 Disco power loss while driving

I had/have the same problem with my 98 D1 and by the way it was acting I figured it was the throttle sensor. I nailed it with silicone spray, soaking the whole device and then ran it. No problem since. I will be travelling 200 miles tomorrow and will see if this 'cured' the problem.
