Damn it, I found rust under one of the pillars. The other side is fine. Attached is what it looks like after hitting it with a wire wheel on the angle grinder and poking at the soft metal with a screw driver.
Does it look like it needs fixing? I would think (therefore I could be wrong) that the...
You mean I'm supposed to wash the truck? Damn, you learn something new every day :D
I'm talking about the inside, long tab-thingy, see attached picture I found somewhere on the net. Right now I'm leaning towards bending it and packing the space with grease.
We don't have that many rocks...
I don't know... with a U piece hugging that sill, the only way to clean that channel would be to take the damn things off. Holes like that tend to get filled with crud. I'm thinking that the smaller the empty space, the less water soaking crud would get there.
Changing the subject, that's one...
I'm ready to start cutting metal for a set of rock sliders and was wondering; how do you guys that fabricate your own stuff deal with that tab on the inside, bottom of the sill box? I can see that the vendors simply build them deep enough to enclose it, but I was wondering; is there anything...
A local guy thinks that it could be a high speed warning thing. It seems like some old cars are rigged so if you go pass 120km/hr, the flashers automatically go off.
This may or may not be the case.
If I had to limp 200 miles home, rather than duct tape something to the broken blade I would take away from the others. I would cut down the broken fan to remove any cracks that may grow with the vibration, and maybe reinforce the ends with duct tape.
Get the blades as close to the same shape...
ROW 1996 Disco, Japanese market:
Long story short, I pounded the truck down hard and the blinkers came up. Pushed on the blinker button and another set of blinkers came up. Short of disconnecting the battery, the first set of blinkers will not stop.
Regular blinkers: I can hear the relay...
So, you don't care how it handles, just how it looks, and you don't mind the time it takes to work on it...
Sure, go for it. It may give you the 'look' you want for cheap. Chances are that the ride on old and tired springs will be mushy, but you will also get better articulation that what you...
Here is the wrap up on this thread:
While pulling on the rotor I messed up my distributor. Most distributors I'm familiar with have a solid shaft with the vacuum and/or mechanical advance on a floating plate. Land rover decided to go the other way and build a fixed vacuum plate and a two part...
Yup, fuel is flowing.
If that's all the damage I did, I'll count myself lucky. Once I empty my garage (full of all of my transition boxes) I'll tow it over here and start fixing this, and all the other stuff I promised the truck I would do (full fluids flush, all filters, cracked hose...

I'll let you...
The rotor, how much 'play' is it supposed to have? I can turn it about 1/4 of a rotation...
The old rotor was stuck pretty good. I yanked hard until it came off. Now I found on another page that this could break some c-clip that holds the upper and lower parts of the distributor together. Could...
I replaced the distributor cap, rotor, and plugs.
Double checked the cables to make sure I didn't screw that up.
I do get spark at the plug, and the thing doesn't react to starter fluid, which got me worried.
I took it to a local mechanic. I'll see if I can get a compression test on all...
Damn, still no-go. There is spark at the plug. It cranks but nothing-what-so-ever happens. Shit, it doesn't care about starting fluid. I just put new spark plugs, cap, and rotor.
I'll print it and add it to my to-do list. So far, no biggie.
As for the SRS, I already wrote it off. If I can find it, eventually I'll replace the passenger-side airbag with the pre-airbag shelf that used to be there. If somebody has one for sale let me know.
I posted this on another forum but didn't get an answer there.
1996 Rest-Of-the-World Discovery: after you start driving, for the first five minutes the controls for the rear windows don't work, nor the rear door wiper, and maybe a few other things. After five minutes everything works fine.
I...
Then, what else besides a wet ECU would cause it not to start after a dunk in muddy water? It cranks fine, I see spark coming from the coil, it has fuel pressure. Starter fluid doesn't make it do anything. It did start up for a minute or so after coming out of the water.
Is there a better...
Long story short; let go of the gas when I should had floored it and the underwater gianormous ruts got me. After a while car stalled and had to get towed out.
After coming out it started back up, idled badly for a minute, and then stopped. Now it cranks but doesn't try to start at all. Fuel...
And the above didn't work. A split RCA cable from the preamp output to the wiring harness does not give me sound. Just to make sure, I hooked a speaker directly into the preamp RCA output and it works, at a very low volume but it works.
Time to stop fooling around and begin the rewiring. I...
