I'm sure many of you have experienced this problem where the sliding arm on the bottom of the rear door has popped off the sill mount. Mine still moves nicely but the piece that holds the arm in place is long gone.

RN lists parts for a washer and circlip that hold the arm in place. is that all i need? anyone used anything else? i don't see where a circlip will work (nothing to grab onto). anyone have a pic of how this piece actually attaches/looks? i think part of mine actually broke off and I'm not quite sure what needs replaced. Pic below we're looking at #13, 14 (upper right).

Thanks!

hmm, not sure theres enough space there for that...

there is a little recess on the pivot shaft for the circlip, albeit very small. I bet your pivot shaft is pretty rusty and you can barely see it, wash it off and push the arm down, towards the bumper, and youll feel the recess for the circlip. The arm has a tendency to ride up the shaft when the door swings open.

ok, ill double check. yes, thats the issue. i can easily pop it back on and if there is a little tension on the door it'll stay put but closing another door for example will pop it right off and it'll swing out. the pivot shaft is quite rusty (though appears to be all surface). ill give it a good brushing and look closer.

thank you!

Not unusual for rust to erode the circlip groove away such that it doesnt hold anymore. We usually advocate carefully drilling a hole across the stud at the very top and running a small R-Clip instead of the circlip (inserting the straight portion of the r-clip through the freshly drilled hole). Depending on where you drilled you may need a thinner washer at position 13.

thats actually exactly what i was considering at this point-no groove to be found. was just going to drill a small hole and push a cotter pin through (just like i did the cargo door lock, ha)

Thanks!
