Have recently noticed a slight ping while driving uphill. It is really slight yet I can hear it.

Use 93 octane.

4.2 engine with recent work - heads, timing chain, etc.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance.

Our area still has 93 readily available so that is covered.

Out of curiosity how far back did you go?

Also, is it necessary to use an offset distributor clamp wrench to loosen the nut?

I put it back to around 8. I had it at close to 10 or 11 before moving.

I have an aftermarket distributor, so not sure if this changes anything, but I just used a normal open ended wrench on it.

Wanted to close this out.

Timing was at 12 degrees which was probably ok with the former cam and double valve spring set up from RPI.

With a milder cam and standard valve springs in the head, was too much advance.

Back to 8 degrees and engine running nicely.

Thx again for all the input.
