I’d guess LR is going to outfit them in-house with every factory softroad accessory in the catalogue, which Lucky8 won’t have any experience with, unlike the D5.

I'm really disappointed in my dealership as we are not going to participate. The staff at both of our stores were really excited about the event, but ultimately our corporate office said no. The dealership is obligated to buy the vehicle after the event, but Land Rover would not say what the cost would be for the dealership. In my opinion, it shouldn't really matter how much the vehicle costs us because we would definitely sell it. Apparently our dealer group doesn't see it the same way.

Which also shows the direction even the folks selling the brand are going.

I think in our case it has more to do with the fact that our parent company is trying to get out of the American market (they already sold our other two JLR stores and Aston Martin). They were open to it, but unwilling to agrees to buy a vehicle with an unknown price.

Invoice of the TReK Disco is $72,693. Lucky 8 accessories $10,998. Not sure if they’re lying to you or if you had to opt in before they gave the invoice amount but it was plainly stated in the email.

All white trucks with black packages. No word yet if they’ll be TDi’s or Petrol.

And you’re right, the dealer keeps the truck afterwards and can choose to sell it.

If it wasn’t for our dealer owner being steeped in LR history and prior winners of the competition way back, our GM wasn’t going to do it. Unfortunately he’s a number guy (prior Lexus and Honda) and doesn’t consider what something like this brings to the brand. Fortunately for us, he doesn’t get a choice.

More and more common the people at the top have lost what this brand stands for (or used to stand for) and can only see it as a luxury SUV, in which case competing in something like this wouldn’t really be that appealing. My GM has never heard of TReK before let alone Camel Trophy.

You had to sign the commitment letter before they had released the pricing. I was with my parts manager when they called him to tell him that they will not be releasing the pricing before the deadline to register. They wouldn't even give us a ball park price range.

Our dealership is quite the opposite. Several of our staff participated in the original series. When I told our GM about it he said it would be a dream come true to participate. Everyone was really excited about it, but our corporate office is the one that said no, not our managers.

It's pretty stupid to expect a business to opt into something they have no idea what the cost will be. What do they expect? That's a real bummer.

Funny, we are doing it here in Huntington and I had to get a tech from Glen Cove as none wanted to do it here. Wish you were still there.

I wish I was participating with you guys! I thought it was weird that at Glen Cove Fernando and I were the only techs that had Land Rovers. At Manhattan, almost every tech has at least one Land Rover. They might not all be enthusiasts, but they at least like the product.

I’m sure some have seen but photos of the Trek D5’s are rolling out. Makes it look pretty decent actually. Wonder if there’s any new products on this or just a culmination of what’s out there already

The (removable) side ladder sucks. Takes convenience out of its use when you’ve got to take it on/off.

That said glad LR has put on this event. Surprised they haven’t publicized it a bit more but assume they will with the new Defenders in the finals
