My d2 isn’t cranking. I checked the battery. Starter, alternator, tried putting it in neutral, it started one on a cold morning and when I got back home turned it off and ran into the house for a second before work it wouldn’t crank again. All electronics turn on when it tries to turn on but no cranking noise. Only a slick faint clicking noise coming from where the window controls are. Help!!!!

Every time I've heard that slick faint clicking noise and no cranking, it's always the battery.

How did you check tha battery? With what? What readout, if any?

Most auto batteries are discharged below 12.4 volts, some like Optima are a little higher than that. What reading did you get?

Yes your battery might be shorted. You will have good voltage till you try and crank it and it will drop to nothing. Keep the meter on there while you try it. If the voltage stays high then look elsewhere. The tapping on your starter trick works. Like the mentions before, it’d the tapping trick works then get a new starter. What do your battery connections look like? I am in the process of installing new terminals on my 04 due to corrosion in the wiring near the battery.

You could also try jumping pins 30 and 87 at the starter relay, marked SM I believe, to see what happens. This is like jumping power straight to the starter. If you do it with the key out it should crank. Put the key in II and it will start if it cranks.

I had a similar problem a few years ago with my 04 Disco. Turned out to be a corroded wire from the battery to the starter.

Thanks guys you guys are the best. Couldn’t ask for a better Group off support. My mechanic said he thinks it’s my started but it cranks strong so I’m just gonna replaced the wire to the starter. Thanks so much all of you!

I didn't know where I was going so I just followed someone that looked like they knew where they were going and I eventually ended up where I needed to be. From Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, a Douglas Adams story. I feel like this sometimes...

Probably not the wire itself, but where it's fastened to the frame. The joint was designed/approved by direct decendants of Lucas electical engineers and is at least 15 years old.
