For the record, I never said "no COVID-19 talk". I said no fear-mongering or political arguments. I consider posting virus infection numbers and stock market woes to be "fear-mongering", even if they are true.

If you want to talk about how this is affecting you personally, go right ahead. Just don't come here and post some stats or story you read in the news that's going to bum people out. This is not the place for that.

...and what about moderation to ensure things don't get out of hand in the first place?

Haven't heard a peep about that.

Cheers,

Personally I'm not a fan of that. Really difficult to find someone who's cut out to be a mod. Really time-consuming, that leads to somebody who wants to be a mod because, well, now they are a mod, with power. That never goes well. I thought the coronavirus thread was handled well. Chris had enough and ended it. Leave it at that is my opinion. Talk about whatever. If it gets out of hand give a warning or two then end it.

Nobody is a fan of dicking around with moderation, but there's a shift happening here that's not going to work without it.

It's counter-intuitive to even suggest, when control was already available and yet unused.

My problem with this all is WHY the forum was closed. It wasn't closed because people weren't being nice, or even polite. Close it because repeatedly called Scott Tard Boy and because of all the mf'ers and csuckers being thrown around. But to close it because "no fear-mongering or political arguments. I consider posting virus infection numbers and stock market woes to be "fear-mongering", even if they are true." just doesn't seem right. It seems incredibly subjective and reeks of China.
"No political arguments"? What did you think would happen in a Political section? Threads would be 4 posts long, not 100 pages long if there were no arguments being made.

One thing I've always enjoyed about Dweb is how it has self moderated. The people on the fringe posting really whacked out stuff get called out. But whatever, it's your ball.

I get the anti-censorship angle, but the signal to noise ratio around here is low. Unfortunately, as LR products appealing to enthusiasts dwindled, discussions of that sort gave way to other types and the balance has been severely shifted since. What we're seeing on NAS-ROW is a combination of new blood from ROW imports and what I'd describe as old-world LR puritanism.

Get over it or leave. I don't give a fuck either way, @fishEH. These forums are my refuge from the hysteria that a lot of people are just soaking in. I don't want them to turn into that. COVID stats hysteria is on every news site, social media feed, and comments section on the internet. This place is different. This can be a refuge from all of that.

If everyone says "fuck you, Chris" and leaves, I don't care. This isn't some Facebook group or ExPo where guys wear "Admin" titles like some kind of trophy or badge. I took over this place because the hosting and software were falling apart. The server's hard disk was failing and it was probably days from dying completely and being lost to time. I wanted to fix the technical problems and keep the resource around. There is virtually no innovation happening in old Land Rovers any more and what's been done is already here. I'm going to keep it here. If you guys appreciate having a place where you can discuss without being swamped by ads and trackers and CNN-style COVID hysteria, you'll continue to hang out and post. Or maybe you won't. Don't care either way. I'll still keep the site here so that people can search old Land Rover stuff and find answers.

As much as I am for freedom of speech, I'm glad to see this lock down happened. A lot of LR Disco owners told me they left the forum due to the constant bantering of political differences.
It's as if people only came on here just to politically b!tch which made me think if they really had a Land Rover. lol

I never understood this mentality.

"I don't like something, but I'll continue to read it (meaning I have to actually go to the politics forum to read it) until I get so mad about it that I abandon the forum. And then I tell people why I left a forum"

It's not just here, it's human nature everywhere. I've seen the same mentality on other forums and I never, ever understood it. If you don't like a section, don't go there. If you don't like a person's politics or posts or the way they misuse commas, put them on ignore.

Sure. I'm certain they were suitably high on that horse, active, and only stopped posting after people griped about nonsense in a sub forum...

Or, we can consider the much more likely possibility that they were already gone.

This is all a two-way street. Post something else, or all you have to read will be current events; the tone dictated by the most vocal interested parties.

That hasn't been the only nonsense indexed and left to fester. I'm still not buying the "reason", and the time to sell it has passed.

Picking an option doesn't make the alternatives go away.

Cheers,

Kennith
