What scanner do you guys use. I know snap on makes a $2k super computer and that I can buy a $30 obd2 reader off amazon but I would like to get something in between that can reset adaptive values and record live data

Also, I have a 2006 BMW and a 2000 Merc. So it would be good to have something that can work with those cars as well.

Someone recomended this

but what makes me nervous about it is that there is no phone support.

I think you want one that will hook up to your Disco. That might be different than the one you wan't for your other cars. The Disco has no CAN network, it's a hodge podge of different systems comunicating in different protocals. The CAN network made everything much simpler as far as comunicating with any vehicle and any system. It was all kind of standardized.
For a DIY kind of guy I would think you should be able to find what you want for under $200. You want to be able to read and clear codes and it would be great to watch data streams. If you can't watch live data it's not worth $30.

Ive had a half dozen or so bluetooth scanners over the years. This is by far the nicest

On a d2 and newer it’s ultimately the software that connects to them that can or cant do what you want. On a D1 you can only do engine stuff, the other systems use pins reserved for non standard things and the consumer grade tools wont do anything with them.

just about any bluetooth module on amazon will work with the 5 common protocols that make up obd2 so all your cars should work, but if they have non standard things wired to pins that are used by another common protocol there will be trouble, like my Acura has

I have the iCarSoft CR 2.0 - you can download multiple cars software to it.. it handles my 2 LR's really well, D2 and LR4.. can read all the different ECUs on both. I also have DOdge/Chrysler and VW vehicles... used it for those as well..
