I found this Yard Lizard parked in the way back of my local Land Rover dealer. It is 2002, 84,000 miles with a blown head gasket. The dealership is interested in selling it but I have no idea what I should offer. I love the truck and it is rare but what is it worth? Thanks

I don't think a 2002 would have those headlights and roof bars. Does it have unique features beyond the paint, like a G4?

Since you are a new member, your comment -'Not a great year" will be merely sneared at.
2003's had the oil pump issue, many had engines replaced, and no locking t-case.
The 2004's had the latest SLABS, locking t-case, etc.
Offer $500 for starters, 'cuz your going to do the head gaskets and replace all the other stuff that's been sitting since they parked it. And that's a lot of stuff.
Worst case, they drove it and overheated the engine. in that case, you have some engine options, as long as you aren't in Calif.

Thank you for the correction and great advice.

Definately an '04. I'd agree with Swedjen that offer a lowball price. See where it goes from there. You can do an LS swap for a relatively decent price. The kit costs about $2400 and then you need to get the LS parts (should be easy to source a used LS engine).

It could also be parked from a front drive shaft exploding, hitting the front frame support and taking out the transmission/TC.

The dealer told me that the head gasket is the issue. It was a loaner for the service department for years. I think his plan is to repair the head gasket and then try to sell it for around 10k. Not sure it is worth that much money but I do love the truck. I might offer him 2500 as-is and 5k if his service team is successful in fixing the vehicle. Thoughts

I think you’d still be overpaying a bit. I highly doubt he could get more than 3-4 if fixed. This is a 16 year old rental car, essentially. I would offer $1K and wait.

If the dealer does not know the difference between a 2004 and a 2002 I would not trust anything else they said about the vehicle
