My truck thinks it’s Christmas (blinking lights)

So I got these “3 amigos” and I ordered the part that will tell them what to do with themselves. The check engine light WAS in Business for itself, always on but blinking whenever. Now the oil light is coming on at red lights. Flashing or flickering with the engine. So is the oil pum weak or the sensor trying to develop a sense of humor?

When the CEL starts blinking,, something isn’t happy and probably a good idea to figure out why. And low oil pressure can make bad things happen quickly. Are you running the right oil like Rotella 15/40?

No. Most assuredly cheap oil. It’s already dark. I just had it changed because it was 2 years old. Rotella 15/40 is a synthetic? The oil level is perfect. But probably 10\30.

A flashing cel indicates a catalyst damaging misfire. Probably in more than one cylinder.
For oil pressure it could be a blocked pick up tube, bad oil pump or bearings. If bearings are that bad that you are getting low oil pressure you would be hearing them by now.
You should get an oil pressure test kit and test where you oil sending unit is located and go from there. If it tests low, drop your oil pan and check the pick up tube to see if there is gunk in the screen.

It comes in both synthetic and conventional. The ‘04 engine is probably the worst one to neglect and expect everything to be fine. Those engines will die if you look at them funny!

Well I bought it to fix up since it didn’t run. I got it running and drivable, and they shoehorned that motor in there. Have you ever measured the clearance from the alternator pulley and the upper coolant hose? It’s about an eight of an inch.

I’ve had a couple D2’s and it only taken about 8 years for the nightmares to stop. So I try to remember as little as possible!
