I'm mostly a ghost here and haven't owned an LR in years. However, recent reliability issues with my Vanagon Camper make me miss how reliable my old D1 was (crazy right?).

What I'm looking for....

Just a running and driving D1, nothing special, doesn't have to be outfitted with anything....just running and driving...

I'd be open to D2s or RRCs, but I honestly have no experience with them and would be less inclined to go that direction. But, if the price is right, who knows..

I'm located in Elizabethtown, KY.

Thanks guys.

I figured you guys would get a kick out of that one lol. To be fair, a D1 is fairly simple and can be reliable if taken care of.

Not sure if applicable yet have seen a few water cooled engine Vanagons implant a ‘Bubaru engine. Also gain more power.
It's aircooled, so a subaru swap would be extra expensive.
I'd like to get a little more adventurous than my Vanagon is willing to tolerate, but I still want to drive something with soul. Which has brought me back here.

Get a Vanagon Synchro and install a ‘Bubaru engine. 😁
D1 would probably be less $ yet personally luv the Synchros.

As do I. Cost of entry on a syncro these days is close to $20k and maintenance costs of that 4wd system would rival any LR. Maybe if I strike oil in my backyard I'll get one..lol

I have a 97 D1 SD7 with 89xxx miles. Clearcoat failure on the hood and roof. Very clean interior. Stock. $9500

That sounds killer, but that's above my budget. Good luck with the sale.

I know of a 99D1 that just passed a MO inspection. Interior is mostly out. Lift and tires are new. PM me if you’re serious.

Get a 94 or 95 DI with no sunroof and manual seats (if you can find one). If you can't find an older DI go with the 99 DI.

Or put a TDi in the bus.

What is your budget? D1's are not cheap anymore, especially for a really clean one. I have one with the cleanest undercarriage your going to find, Like IMMACULATE with little to NO rust at all. CA rig that literally never touched dirt till this year. Dealer maintained always and owned by a female school teacher, lol... It has a little Med Lift, new shocks, new tires, new winch and bumper, steering guard. Sock bumper comes with it. No rips or tears in orig seats, 5 speed. (only bad is headliner needs redone, rear wiper motor is out, sunroof is DISABLED intentionally from what I was told, needs break master replaced but comes with a BRAND new one in the box ready to install) Runs and Drives PERFECTLY. I have a brush guard (not pictured) that is being powder coated that mounts on the bumper. Location is Northern CA. Miles are 123k
