Terry has about 10 Discos. he's gotta have some stuff. He's near you. I don't have much interior trim. I have harnesses to cut connectors off.
I have moved all the LR stuff to New Mexico but I know of a low mileage rolled parts truck in Iowa that may be had very reasonable.

On the other hand, those are some rockn jack stands.

All kidding aside, that is an odd place to dismantle a stolen vehicle. Unless they had a pit crew waiting that took a certain amount of time. I guess they could have removed everything but the wheels, drove it there, then removed them, but you would think even that would draw some attention.
This is not uncommon in St. Louis. At least they didn’t set it on fire, which is also common.

i'm glad you got it back.

I'm guessing they just wanted the tires. if they wanted rover wheels theyd probably take more stuff

any pics of the interior damage?

I’ll get some pics. They can’t really sell the wheels. Sure…they are crazy expensive. But who’s going to buy them? I assume they will sell them for scrap? I’m really relieved to have it back. All of the suspension, steering and off road parts are good. They left the engine alone.

Yeah when I first saw the picture I didn't give it a second thought. But once I started looking at the area around the rig.... That doesn't look like the hood around here. Where are all the busted out windows? Where are all the piles of trash and furniture and shit? I mean where do they hide the dead bodies?

The other side of the street was all abandoned buildings. And that is walking distance to the river. Easy body disposal

St. Louis is a unique place. The “hood” in St. Louis is defined from block to block in some areas, sometimes neighbor to neighbor. There are several areas where you will have a pocket of very well kept homes and only a block away, there are numerous boarded up and sometimes falling down, groups of homes. There are also many vacant lots where the city took ownership and tore the homes down. The larger impoverished areas in St. Louis City have the best, well built, and upper level architecturally designed, turn of the century brick homes you could ever hope to find. Passing through the well kept areas, if you didn’t know the crime stats, you wouldn't know you were in an impoverished and high crime neighborhood. Many homes have servent staircases, carriage houses, marble floors, and granite and limestone staircases are common. I have a friend that was born and raised in one of those areas. He chose to buy one of those homes auctioned off by the city for something like $3000 back in the 90s.It was over 3000 sq ft, carriage house with living quarters, grand staircase, servant quarters with separate entry, built in cabinets in every room, and more. The interior woodwork alone would conservatively add $50,000 to the cost to build today. It was once, decades ago, an affluent area.

Yep…that sums St. Louis up perfectly. I work and live on the hill. I always tell people from out of town to watch which way they turn when they head downtown. Shit can get real, very quickly.

Those cities along the River had money when Chicago was just a swamp. I go to Dubuque Iowa a lot. I'm always amazed at the old brownstone buildings and the old factories are cool as hell.

Yeah Dubuque definitely seems like one of those towns that has some old money spots.

A couple months after the Defender release, I saw one on a transport truck driving on the highway that goes along the River bluffs.

Picked up a parts truck with a few buddies locally. If you’re in the area, I’ll have a good engine and transmission shortly. After we’ve stripped it of what we need.

How many miles on the engine and trans? Also, I could use some some small odds and ends. I will be back in St. Louis the 3rd week of October.

That reminds me of a story an acquaintance told me years ago. He had been a truck driver and had a delivery to make in the east St Louis area. He got lost, after some driving in circles he noticed a police car behind him. They put their lights on. The officer walks up and in a terse and caustic manner asks him what the hell he's doing. The officer is like "look, what you are going to do is go up there, turn around, and follow us out of here. Because if you don't we'll be back down here investigating a robbery/murder".
