This was my daily driver for about two years and a “winter beater” for two years, then stored outside for 18 months. When I put a battery on it it started within 2 seconds on the first crank and runs perfectly. It has a bunch of rusty brake lines and is overall pretty shabby. Everything that normally fails on these trucks has been replaced, modified to work properly, or removed. I may just fix the brakes and keep going or if someone is building up a Land Rover p38 or something else, it would be a fantastic donor car. It actually looks quite good, and still restoreable, but why do it? Lots of expensive parts on it which would be a real “find“ for someone who needs a p38 complete drivetrain in good shape. I will sacrifice it for $3000 Canadian (firm) or fix it and keep going. You decide!
The good:
Nearly new Arnott gen 3 bags.(very expensive and transform the car)
overhauled tranny shifts and locks up like it is supposed to.
completely overhauled transfer case including bearings and chain.
Custom HD front prop shaft (balanced)
Cylinder heads overhauled and skimmed.
all new gaskets (inc head) and cylinder head bolts.
(Not “top hats” but never any indication of a problem even before cyl heads being done.. Bores hardly worn.)
nearly new plugs leads and coils.
All new bushings all the way to the panhard rod front and back
steering box adjusted and sealed
nearly new heated windshield (pilkington oem)
Alternator works great.
good glass inc headlights and one fog light.
One set p38 18” rims with 285/65/18 Toyo all seasons. Very good.
one set 16” rims (original for this model) with Cooper Mudders (old)
The bad: drives fine now but all brake lines very rusty
right front door locks itself randomly. Very annoying.
all HVAC controls disconnected and zip tied for winter ! Crude but works. No more 3 amigos Or resistor packs.
HVAC computer still in the car. Works afaik.
1/4 HP Chinese compressor for air suspension. Much better than flimsy original!
Cream/green piping and accents pretty shabby. (Except for driver seat and steering wheel, probably restoreable.
Driver’s window a little “sticky”. Works fine though.
secondary air stuff in a plastic bag in my garage.
Sunroof coded out. Probably leaks but I put tape on it.
