Santanas are weird Defenders with questionable parts availability. Couldn't see paying more than 10k for one.

I have a Santana and I will admit that is a pretty good quick assessment. It takes some effort to identify replacement parts but it is not horrible. Most parts are regular LR items and most other can be replaced with regular LR items with some notable exceptions. I wouldn’t pay Defender dollars but 10k would be a bargain. I bought mine because I couldn’t justify the cost of a “real Defender” when I could get an almost equivalent for less than half the price in better condition. I don’t typically sell my “toy” vehicles so resale value means nothing to me, but purchase price does. Later Santana’s, like my 1988, are sort of a mix of Series 3 and Defender with some Spanish accents thrown in. The primary benefit of a Santana is a from the factory galvanized frame. How many Defenders can you find with 30 plus year old frames with zero rust? The electrical system is completely Hella. However, due to limited availability of things like the tail lights and turn signals, mine are being changed to the the Defender stuff. If you have the will and time to identify “British” part numbers, it really is a nice off road vehicle more capable than a Series but a step behind a Defender. When Santana ended their long term agreement with LR but continued to source most components from LR, they went with parabolic leafs when LR went to coils.

This Santana is 3 miles from my place in St. Louis. (We moved to New Mexico but decided to wait to sell our place there until Spring.) I will be there Thanksgiving week and a week over Christmas if anyone wants me to take look. If it was $15k, I’d be looking for myself. I do wish they would be more clear it is not a Defender 110. It’s disclosed but not to the extent it needs to be.
