2003 Land Rover Discovery (Top Hat Engine)

May I ask what suspension parts you are using? We have a similar setup with the bumper and tires and my front end sags a bit with the OME springs and shocks I have.

"From Quiet to Riot" - interesting wiring indeed

When I purchased my Discovery II last year and did the initial inspection I noticed the exhaust silencer (the middle piece) had a kind of protrusion on it, it ended up being an "exhaust electric cutout". These devices literally open the exhaust to the atmosphere, as the ad states you can...

    2003 D2 tranny questions

Transmission will throw a code when it is a fluid problem (as in, low pressure) because the torque converter won't operate properly. If yours works in one gear and not in the others then it may be the gear selector or selector wiring. It's not a mechanical connection even if it feels like one.

RESOLVED: Replaced CPS - D2 Won’t start - battery ok, starter ok

The OEM Bosch pump is $159.89 from rock auto. I’d never use anything else but a Bosch pump.

RESOLVED: Replaced CPS - D2 Won’t start - battery ok, starter ok

Fuel injection systems don't pump fuel while you press the accelerator unless the motor is running, so there's no need to "pump it" like an old carburetor. In fact it may make things worse. Yes, it could be the fuel pump. Diagnosing fuel pressure in the dark at night might be a bitch though...

    Transmission leaking badly - options...

Thanks for the advice. Will is sending me a good transmission with the torque converter in the right position and locked that way, which should eliminate the issues you mention in the bottom of the post. When you say drive shaft are you referring to the shaft between the transfer case and...

RESOLVED: Replaced CPS - D2 Won’t start - battery ok, starter ok

Define what you mean - It won't catch as in, the starter turns and it won't start, or the starter never turns? I found myself the other day in a parking lot with this situation and it was because the truck wasn't in P - park. I even ran my code scanner out of anxiety. Then I looked down and...

    98 D1 4.0 Auto Transmission

I work on a lot of Italian cars from the 60s - 80s. By comparison to those service manuals Rave is a Pulitzer Prize winning work. I especially like the numbered steps matching in the diagrams. Italian shop manuals are more like suggestions based on one example of the car, typically a pre...

    Transmission leaking badly - options...

Will is going to hook me up with a good used unit. I’m convincing myself to do it myself. It’s not my primary vehicle so it can be done over a week or so in the garage. I can also solve my exhaust issues.

    Transmission leaking badly - options...

Also a local mechanic made mention that I would have a problem with a used one because the computer isn’t programmed to match the truck VIN, so it won’t work? I’ve never heard this before.

    Transmission leaking badly - options...

It would be difficult I think...from what I'm reading the lack of a lift seriously impairs the ability to get these heavy bastards out of there. However, I do also need to remove the exhaust system to fix it, so perhaps I'm part of the way there already?

    Transmission leaking badly - options...

Although shifting and running well my transmission is leaking badly; when running it drips out fluid from the bell housing at an alarming rate. I'm no longer driving it as I don't want to damage the transmission itself. Given the quotes to R&R with a used, rebuilt unit range about $3,000 -...

    2003 discovery scammed

Interesting - because my disco threw only the BRAKE light recently, the scenario being I tried unsuccessfully to change just the ABS sensor and it ended up being the whole hub. During the week in between wasting my time on just the sensor and getting the new hub the truck would throw just BRAKE...

    2003 discovery scammed

Second the vote for the Autel, I've been able to take my Discovery II from a mess of engine/emissions and ABS codes a year ago down to zero codes today. Granted this included a bit of $ spent on parts, but the Autel was a big help. It will reset the adaptive values btw. The only thing I can't...
