Rear frame rails

2000 black discovery, something like 154000 miles, Pennsylvania current inspection. pretty rough but still a good runner, I drive it several times a week. near Easton PA. don't want to donate it to NPR, would rather it live on as somebody's toy or someone that will part it out like a kidney...

been doing some searching but found nothing definitive so here goes. several weeks ago the radio(radio/cassette) starting acting up, couldn't change channels, no volume control and so on. then a dead battery after sitting for a few days. removed radio, new battery alls good, reinstall...

Update, been 3 years since my post here, fix is still good. Disco has other issues but the radiator fix is hanging tough.

finally got around to changing out the spark plug wires, misfire gone, runs as good as ever .... er...well you know. It was a four hour-ish job, didn't remove intake manifold, so maybe a hour was just for dicking around with the secondary air pipes. found a good write up with pics over the LRO...

Having a similar problem right now as well, misfire always on cyl 1, heavy stumbling at highway speeds, could be a lot of things but I'm going the maf route first. if it turns out to be a head gasket, its going to be up for sale to the highest bidder. bidding starts $1 over scrap yard quote....

for future reference. those "push n pull" connectors get all fouled up with gunk n stuff, you need to liberally spray and soak with PB and use an air blast to clear out the fitting before they'll slide. ask me how I know.

So, I checked the gap on the faulty cyl 6 plug,................ just shy of .080 ...... go big or go home!:eek:

Thanks for the reply. I was in a real hurry, having major problems keeping the soon to be son in law rolling, last week it was his alternator so he borrows the disco, brings it back all running like crap, last night I'm looking at his rear tires and he's running on the steel belts.....gotta get...

had a misfire code on cyl 6, pulled the plug (RC11PYPB4- iridium) and it looks pretty used up, I have a RC12YC laying in my tool box, will it f-up anything if I use it until I can p/u a new set? ie. 7 iridium and one old fashioned plug-a-roo?

Sounds like the classic crank position sensor failure. Mine did it overnight as well. Weird, but it was an easy fix, after being frustrated for a day or two. Oops, re-reread your post, never mind....Still it does sound like a CPK

New solenoid in and ..... sai pump runs quiet.. again I thank you.

Once again discoweb to the rescue! Thanx for the replies. yep had the head gaskets done ages ago, so I'll find some "alternative" mounting since its laying down on other things like the spark plug wires :ack:. And I'll go with the solenoid first. The lines/tubes seemed to be in order. Thanx...
