Thanks so much for creating so many videos on your channel! I am working on putting together a new rebuilt 4.0 for my Disco this year (I've been sitting on it for well over a year now - current motor is running great - but has the same tick as K-rover describes). I am looking forward to...
I went through this on my D1. I just finished my winch installation - see pics. At first I thought I could use a front trailer hitch and a winch plate that could be put on or taken off. After purchasing two different plates, and trying to engineer a way to weld the front hitch receiver onto the...
It's the bearing in the pulley - you can get one at NAPA - pretty standard. Press the old one out and the new one in and you are good to go. I had to do this on mine as well - was yelling at me every time I started the car...
I had previously replaced pretty much every bushing - including everything in the rear, as well as replacing ball joints and the pan hard bar and it's bushings - but I either forgot to do the radius arms or they failed a few years after I installed them. I think I just didn't do it because I...
I just finished this project - and wish I had tried it this way. I used another jack to put the arm in position - but it was a real pain getting them both back on after replacing the bushings!
Whew - all done. What a pain! Not easy replacing the bushings in these parts and getting them back on. The good news is that all clunking, rattling and steering issues are now gone! Riding smooth...
DING DING DING DING! Just found the culprit:
New poly bushings coming! I guess I didn't replace these when I did all of my bushings - or if I did, I used factory bushes and they got eaten up by my 2" lift.
I am going to start taking things apart at this point and look at every bushing etc. even though I have already replaced all of them. It seems like it is getting worse - so it should be easier to figure out! Still does it with the center lock engaged, although I am not sure what that tells me...
Nope - not happening just sitting. Only when braking in forward or reverse - and then it changes from the release of the brake when going forward to the beginning of braking in reverse. Weird!
Let me redefine the "clunk" - might be a bit confusing. There isn't any kind of metal sound - like in the diff or in the U-joints. It's more like a releasing of pressure suddenly that you feel in the pedal, which is why I think it is the braking system and not something else - although I will...
So I just upgraded my brakes to Defender calipers, rotors and pads. Before I did this, I had already replaced the master cylinder, proportioning valve and modulator unit (used one). So I had been having this weird clunk after stopping and releasing the pedal - feels like something didn't get...
'I had a set of those BFG All Terrains on my first Land cruiser (FJ55 - yes!) and while the tread was still good on them - they totally disintegrated while driving on the highway one day - had them for maybe 5 years or so? I didn't have a garage at the time - so the truck was outside all day...
I just installed new D90 calipers, rotors and pads on the front of my D1. Unfortunately - I have just realized that the retainer pins for the brake pads do not cross over from the D1 calipers to the D90 calipers and the brake pads did not come with new pins. Anyone solve this? Going to NAPA...
Bumping this post - as I just installed new D90 calipers, rotors and pads on the front of my D1. Unfortunately - I have just realized that the retainer pins for the brake pads do not cross over from the D1 calipers to the D90 calipers and the brake pads did not come with new pins. Anyone solve...
