    Oil Pressure - D1

To my knowledge it’s just a dummy light.

Successfully remove crank while engine in place?

I know my RRC had really low pressure with a brand new Nissens Radiator. Never got much over 20 and got better when hot which was weird. I removed the cooler plate and it popped to 40 at idle. I just left it that way. Now this is an older distributor driven pump so it’s not the same but...

    exhaust leak(s)

I’d check them with a straight edge real well. If there in spec, may save you a trip to the machine shop. Mine were off so I went to machine shop to be shaved. I pulled the valves, cleaned them up, and put new seals in afterwards. Probably wouldn’t have hurt to lap them in but they looked great...

    Cracked Timing gear

Had a new cam gear break off the lock into the camshaft when torquing it down. Thankfully the chain seemed loose so I removed it. That’s when I noticed it. Threw that Chinese garbage in the trash and reused the old gears (215k) and the Morse chain on it, that was replaced at some point. I also...

    Bleeding Clutch Method?

I found that bleeding the master first helps. I usually bleed it before I install it. Or at least bleed it at the hose first. It’s always a PITA still bleeding the clutch. Never tried the reverse method just the old pump and hold method

Advice needed - Rust repair and tracking down leak

If it was mine, I would hit the worst spots with a screwdriver and if no holes pop up, I’d wire brush (on a grinder) the worst rust off, ospho the rust, and repaint it. If any of the metal has holes or is real thin, then I’d cut that section out and weld new metal in. It doesn’t look bad at...

    Disco Headers.

Those are sick! I ran the headman’s on my first series coiler. If I recall I had to dent one a bit for the steering u joint. Been a long time and it was a 3.9 on RRC chassis. Miss that rig. It had a 470 truck avenger on a JWR Offy manifold with the headman’s. Really woke that old girl up.

    Exhaust system

I usually do my own mufflers and welding, but I have an NRP and a Borla cat back on a couple of our rovers. Both sound good. I don’t care for the borla tip. They’re both old and still in great shape but I like the NRP the most. I typically use magnaflow cats. They fit well. I think they also...

    Chasing a coolant leak

The lucky 8 kit is likely Chinese at that price. Mine was all makes gears and eurospare chain and was 73$ (gems not Bosch). Pretty sure the AB kit had a eurospare chain as if I recall it was made in Mexico per the reviews. Maybe the AB has better quality gears but the gears I got (pretty sure it...

    Preferable clutch brands.

Just don’t waste your money on the LOF lighter clutch spring. Had two in my D1 and both broke. Prior to changing the clutch this year it was very stiff so that may have caused the breakage but the stock spring was fine and went back in after breaking two LOF springs. It did make a noticeable...

    Chasing a coolant leak

Worth noting I also did the oil pump and used aftermarket parts. Seems to be fine and but the old one wasn’t cracked or damaged and was probably unnecessary

    Chasing a coolant leak

I recently bought a timing chain kit for my 96. The gears were Total Chinese garbage. The chain was better , made in Mexico. Unfortunately it was no tighter than the one I had and was pretty loose. So I took it back off to investigate. The new gear on the cam had sheered off the cam lock into...

    Random stalling

I agree look at the wires to the sensor, not just the sensor. Had a similar issue on our D1 and new wires fixed it. Gordo

    Oil pump pressure relief springs

I just did one in the engine and I used a Klein screwdriver wedged between the frame and cup to hold it in place while I installed the c clip. Worked well. Walt NYC that is the spring I ordered and the gems (and likely serpentine belt 3.9) is definitely different. Thanks though. Gordo

    Oil pump pressure relief springs

On a gems 4.0, I tried to replace the oil pressure relief spring but couldn’t find it for sale. It is NOT the same as the classic 3.9 with the old oil pump. I stuck a washer behind the spring and it increased the cold oil pressure about 5lbs. It still cuts out around 35psi per the auto meter...

Cats stolen on the streets of NYC

I just sold two D1 cats to rrcats.com for 413$. I just had to box and send them out. We put aftermarket cats in ourselves and actually made money. The date was 5/16/23. That’s crazy that two months later they are 200. Same company! If I was in ur shoes I’d buy a y pipe and install it myself. Or...

    D15spd

If it was closer I’d already own this rig. Seems like a good price for a rough d1 with no rust and some mods. Gordo https://m.facebook.com/marketplace/item/335885208777065/?ref=group_mall

97 Land Rover Discovery alarm disabled the fuel pump

What year? Is there a red light on under the instrument panel? U can try running power to the white purple wire at the fuel pump (d1 not sure on D2), like lunchbox said. We need to know more to help though. Also check the inertia switch as well

    Speakers?

I think the factory door speakers are 4 inches not 6.5. We had to trim the doors a bit for larger magnets in our truck. The rears would be easier to upgrade. The subs are tiny, I think 6.5. In my sons d1 we put an aftermarket radio, a couple small amps under the backseat and used factory size...

    TrueTrac noises

I’ve had 3 trutacs. Still have two and they’re fronts and they are pretty quiet. Never heard any racket sounds. I did have one die but I really couldn’t find much wrong other than some worn ridges and a couple gear chips. It acted like a broken axle which was odd. Not much to them really and...
