The 97 GEMs has been good to me. 200k over the last 20 years, engine is all original. Only things I’ve had to replace is alt, rad, water pump, viscus fan. Still runs consistently at 190 degrees.
It happens. My son's first car was a 97D1. It overheated when the coolant res cracked that third summer he owned it. The lessons he learned from that whole ownership experience pay dividends for a long time.
