Ordered a new viscous clutch, then found out that the nut is not a normal viscous clutch size so I ordered a 32mm spanner on Amazon and received a 34mm. This damn thing has been a royal pain in the ass every step of the way.
I've got ~276k on my DII that I bought at 105k.
It loses about half a quart of oil and coolant every 3k miles and the same amount of transmission fluid every 5-6k (front prop exploded and caused a small crack in the tranny through which fluid weeps.
Other than that, the darn thing runs great.
Yup, the plastic handle died.
This is what I came up with, on the fly, with what I had on my work bench.
The canvas webbing was leftover from building a new 'diaphragm' for the driver's seat.
Mine is 270k and climbing.
I've owned it since 105k and other than the electrical fire, it's all been basic maintenance to be expected at the mileage (alternator, water pump, hoses, radiator, coils, plugs and a front prop shaft)
Well, chased down some fuel leaks and everything looks good. She lights right off and purrs.
And I can't bring myself to drive the darn thing. It turned into 10x the project I thought it'd be and I just got burned out on it.
Just seeing it in the yard pisses me off. This sucks.
Glow plugs are live!
Anyone know what the blanking plate next to the mirror control knob is for? I popped it off and found a nice 3/8" hole that was very easy to drill out to 1/2" for the momentary and in a great position.
I know glow plugs are considered somewhat optional on the 200tdi...
Lift pump will be here Tuesday.
Managed to get glow plug wiring almost done. I've still got to route the wiring for the momentary switch, but it's tested and working properly. Also found the plug for the cigarrette lighter and attached it, now that works properly.
So, she idles like a champ and sounds fantastic now that she's not blowing out the back of the head gasket and the valves have been adjusted. BUT, if I rev and try to hold it at revs, it'll slowly drop back down to about 1100rpm. If I rev and let off, it'll stumble back at idle and...
The head is on!!
I still have to adjust the valves, slap on the valve cover and re-install the I take and a few minor bits.
Got the exhaust tightened down, injector pipes on and the new spill rail installed.
The snap on techangle I bought for this job made things a lot easier. A push of a...
Got it all tidied up with a bit more elbow grease and a copper brush.
The valve spring compressor should be here tomorrow. I'm hoping to do the stem seals tomorrow and get it all back together this weekend.
