Also LTL shipping is expensive, around $600 to west coast for a trans

    4.0 and R380

Bump! Make me an offer. These are just taking space in my shop now. Also included or available separately for trade-for-beer pickup: D1 V8 radiator (original and fine condition), Delphi fuel pump from 2020 (perfect), evap cannister, fuel solenoid.

    4.0 and R380

No crossmember available, I'm still using it with the 300 TDI setup. Anyone have any experience shipping a transmission cross country for a reasonable price? Any recommended carriers?

    Starting Welder suggestions.

I use a Miller Maxstar 150 suitcase stick welder. It is awesome. It will run off 120 or 240. You'll get plenty of output for a bumper with 120. They can be found second hand for a few hundred dollars (I think I paid $300 for mine off Craigslist). I learned to weld with a stick welder so I am...

    4.0 and R380

As far as I know they are the same on GEMS and 14CUX. The V8 R380 that was bolted to my GEMS 4.0 came out of a 14CUX truck. There were no compatibility issues, other than needing the trigger ring flywheel.

    D1 seat bottoms

I was not aware of that outfit. Looks like they have what I am after for a decent price. Can anyone vouch for the quality/fit?

    D1 seat bottoms

Has anyone sourced seat bottom covers for manual leather seats? Mine are torn to hell. I'm going to rebuild/replace the diaphragms and the foam, but need to do something about the dry torn leather (that doesn't cost $500 like the upholstery shop is asking).

    INEOS Grenadier

A winch on the front and some lead bricks in the back should have done the trick.

    4.0 and R380

Still an R380. I have one that is specific to the disco/TDI combination, which I believe comes down to the length and diameter of the input shaft.

    4.0 and R380

Coming soon: a complete 4.0 and R380 out of my 1998 disco. The motor is original to my truck and has 200k miles. It runs well but has some top end noise when hot (It has not gotten noticeably worse in the last ~50k miles; I can take a video for interested folks). Head gaskets were done about 30k...

    98 D1 V8 auto to 300TDI 5 speed conversion

Once I pull the V8 GEMS drivetrain, I intend to sell the 4.0 complete with the R380. It has 200k, is still a good runner, but the top end has a characteristic RV8 tick when it's warm. But hopefully I'll recover some of the cost of the conversion. Thanks for the information about the motor...

    98 D1 V8 auto to 300TDI 5 speed conversion

Thanks for the information. Was this the eBay kit by chance? https://www.ebay.com/itm/225472350259. Some say Defender only, and some like this one say Defender, Disco, and RR. It is hard to see in the photo, but it's a Disco 300tdi R380.

    98 D1 V8 auto to 300TDI 5 speed conversion

Reviving an old thread because I'm about to take the plunge! (Though I previously converted from V8 auto to V8 R380, so I at least have three pedals already). My first question is: what have people done for motor mounts? I'm guessing some 300TDI-specific brackets need to be welded to the frame...

    LR3 gear oil

What fluids are people running in their diffs (non-locking) and tcase on LR3s? Is the Castrol diff oil called out in the manual necessary? And how about the Land Rover branded tcase fluid?

Who's got a cam that they like - 4.0 GEMS

I got a cam for a 3.5 RV8 from Woody at The Wedge Shop. I was very happy with it, but it was for a TR8, so likely a different tune from what you’re after. Worth checking with him though. I think they’ve been building GEMS 4.0/4.6 motors of late.
