I have one of the infamous halo half racks for the D2 (possibly D1) and I'm thinking about selling it. Some of you may know the history of thing. I spent an entire evening reading the soap opera like thread about the guy that took pre-orders on these and then skipped town. Interesting stuff...
Go balls out! Those are an awesome tire. I ran them for a year, but sold them off after I started road tripping the D2 to Colorado 8-10 times a summer. They were a bit big and really cut the power down on the mountain passes. I went to a 235/85 and then to these ST MAXX at 265/75 and they are a...
If you're looking for a good tire that's somewhere between an MT and AT, I recommend the Cooper Discoverer ST MAXX. I just put a set on my D2 and I really like them. They have the side lug and wall of a MT, but the center tread is more like an AT.
I know everyone here has been on the edge of their seat waiting to find out what this noise is. The anticipation is over. It was (🥁):
The front Tom Woods driveshaft slip yoke.
Yep, that thing was dry. And that's why the noise only occurred when off roading. That's the only time the Disco...
LOL. That's awesome. I was trying to remember what the name was. Well, if the kids ever want to see it, come on by. Although, it's not in it's glory anymore.
I do have delusions of one day turning it into a rock crawler. Who knows.
It did cross my mind that I could just pull them from the parts truck, but I just bought new ones from Lucky8. Good to know those ones are good though.
Recently, my sway bar bolt punctured my A/C line near the wheel well. That's coming off your old truck. Every time I think maybe I'll sell it...
Today, I went over the underside of this thing with a fine tooth comb. Nothing looks problematic with the suspension. With the help of my son running next to me while driving over some bumps off road, we narrowed the noise down to the driver side, around where the driver seat is.
I torqued the...
Thanks for all of the suggestions. I think I have narrowed it down to the front driver's side. I was finally able to reproduce the sound on a speed bump. I'm going to get under it and tighten everything. I suspect a spring moving around or maybe a loose radius arm bolt but haven't had time to...
All of the bushings look good. And, from the other camera angles I got with the GoPro, I didn't see any slop in the radius arm bushings or panhard. It does seem like a bushing though. Or, a spring that's grinding in the perch possibly.
You're right, it does sound like tire spin/tire slippage, but it definitely isn't. In this video it's in 4 low, 1st gear, CDL engaged on flatish loose dirt at about 5mph. The noise is coming from the underside....somewhere.
For months I have been hearing a strange suspension noise under my D2 only when off roading. It happens most when the vehicle is being jostled side-to-side. The noise sounds like....a sea lion. It's a weird barking sound. The problem is, I can't tell where it's coming from. Sometimes it sounds...
