I have been looking into electric oil boost pumps and am not really satisfied with what I have found so far; the affordable ones are mostly gear pumps.. which tend to shed metal. It may be necessary to convert a drysump scavenger to electric.
That said, an accumulator would be relatively cheap...
1995 Disco1 NAS 5sp.
It was the clear winner, back in 006, in my search for a compact SUV, seating 5 with room for up to 7 in a pinch..that I could actually work on and that could handle tight in-town U-turns and Sierra snow...
I should point out: I have still managed to hit 16mpg with the big tires... on the highway, at low speeds (~50mph) and on flatlands.
These tires: https://www.amazon.com/85R16-ATLANDER-ROVERCLAW-116Q-10PLY/dp/B0BBN6XMXC
I need to review the whole oil passage thing. That looks like the red arrow is going down the pickup to the pan(?).
It seems a remote filter housing with a pump or accumulator would be quite nice.
The taller tires are the cause of the mileage hit. I when from ~29.5" to 32" ... like adding an overdrive. My current engine is the original 3.9 with 205k miles and the original camshaft... lets just say it feels a little flat. I am gonna be building a 4.0 into a 4.6 and popping it in there at...
My 95 R380 (5sp stick) with same tire size (perfect size for an emu lift, imo) is exactly the same. With 235/70/16's and all dialed in I was actually hitting 17.5-18mpg in the flatlands (WITH a rack).. which was amazing... but with the 85's the mileage dropped way back down to it's...
I seem to recall one of the wiser fellas on discoweb went into some detail about the oiling options. I don't recall which post (and am at work..so..keepin it short but sweet).
I have thought about popping out a gauge cluster blister to fit above the radio *or* fit onto the top of the main cluster cover. What do you guys thing? and if I do it, will any of you be willing to help offset the cost of popping a few out? It would not really be a "sale" so I am hoping...
Still investigating.
There are actually two ~co-habitating projects in this area:
- Coolant filter & electric pump (to circulate coolant and run the fans after engine shutdown)
- Electric oil pump w/100%-bypass filter (amsoil). To pre-pressurize the system
Yeah, I tried that .. it has both worked and not worked.. my current rig, the '95 14cux NAS R380 proved too much.. its currently unhooked.. I need to get in there and fix it proper
Nice Camel Cut. :-) I am running OME and they are not new (~20yrs old); I think they are about 1.5-2" max. I really like the 235/85-16 tall-skinnies.. it just needs more power now.. but.. a plan is slowly taking shape. :-)
