Hi,
Has anyone replaced the Serp belt on D2 without taking the fan off.
Rave says to take the Fan off.

Anyone knows if the new belt can slip around the fan ? any pulley tight spots?

Thinking to use the goodyear Gatorback Belt 4070923. any feedback on this belt ?

you can do it, if I am remembering correctly the tensioner is a 15mm nut. Make damn sure you have the socket on securely when you pull it up so you dont slip off and bust a fan blade.

I wouldn't even say it's tricky. Once you get the tesioner pushed back, slip the belt off your AC or ACE pulley and the thing basically falls out the bottom at that point. Assuming you don't still have the plastic splash guard on the bottom, that is.

Does anyone really remove that fan for this, ie dealerships? Seems like a ridiculous amount of work for nothing.

With the right tools, the fan assembly literally comes off in seconds. Why not take it off, it makes the job a lot easier.

That's the trouble, they rarely come off in seconds even with the right tools.

I must be lucky, because I have never had a problem.....once I figured out whether it was a right or left thread:)

I replaced mine a month ago with an Atlantic British belt. It took me about 20 minutes staring at it until I finally figured it out, but I didn't have to remove the fan.

I know this thread is 5 years old but maybe somebody will find it like I did.

A couple of notes from just replacing my belt:

1) There is no need to remove the fan.

2) Have a nice long breaker bar and 15mm socket for the tension pulley

3) Draw out your routing if you don't have a manual or RAVE handy.

4) Start routing the new belt from the center (fan pulley). I personally started there, worked up and to the right, down to the bottom and finished at the tension pulley.

All said and done (including removing and reinstalling the belt guards) it was a 20 minute project. It would have taken me twice that long just to remove the fan!!
