Hello...just replaced my longblock with a rebuilt one....new front cover, etc....I cannot get any oil pressure...I wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts before I rip into it....a few notes...I did not prime the oil pump gears but did fill the oil filter before installing...I matched up the oil pump pick-up rubber seal with one from a local Auto parts store.....I am at a loss right now other than replace the oil pump pick-up seal with one from LR and inspect and full the oil pump gears up with assembly lube....I appreciate the help..

thank you....

install your old pump/cover as a test, when I worked for a dealership we had some 3 short blocks in a 4 month period do the same, after the first engine failed we installed a known good used unit in order to verify a bad/defective new pump, lo and behold a defective new pump.

Remove the oil pressure switch. Stuff the hose of your evacuator device (I've got a mity-vac) and pull a vacuum and wait until you have oil coming through the oil pressure switch port.

Replace the oil pressure switch and start engine in comfort knowing you have now confirmed priming the oil pump.

Or, you can do the opposite and pump oil in through the oil pressure switch port to prime the pump.

FWIW-I've not had much of a problem with the crankshaft driven oil pumps.

If your wiring harness is ground faulting against the frame the idiot oil pressure light can light. I thought I had no oil pressure for months and pestered all the poor souls on this board until I had the truck at the dealer for a keyfob program and they found the harness resting against the frame. One plastic tie later and I had perfect oil pressure again. :)

Hello....back at it this weekend....still not luck....

I dropped the pan and put a new LR o-ring on the pick-up....no luck.....so I removed the cover and the gears where dry....I primed them with a mixture of vasoline and 90W oil....no luck......I have a container of oil under the pick-up, this shouldn't be an issue correct?......any other thoughts?.......worse case I will put my old cover back on in the morning for a try....

Also....I did try to use my mine-mite vacuum pump and I could not pull oil thru....

thank you....

I gave you the source of your issue and the solution on the first few posts, since your old pump works, leave it installed, some of the "new" replacement pumps have too much clearance from factory thus do not build pressure.

Set the 2 covers next to each other....notice anything missing on the new one?....lesson learned.....I thought the covers came complete....why would LR put in a new oil pressure sender, etc...and no oil relief valve...geez.....got her on the road this afternoon.....running great...
