I will remove your pictures no problem, and myself from the "freindly" forum.......

Wow, you were offended at Ho's request? That was about the nicest request you could have gotten...you obviously haven't been around here much, maybe it's best you realize this place isn't for you.

I found last night that the Dynamat Xtreme sticks very well to the plastics in the center console. I used it to line the bottom, in hopes that the reflective layer might help just a bit in keeping it cooler. I took all the little bits and pieces I had left and used them on the brackets, so that noise and heat would be less able to transmit along them. It's not going to quiet things completely, but those pieces sure are solid now, and that's got to help some. That, and I just didn't want to throw all the bits away. I'll run some hot glue around their edges so they don't attract dirt and grime.

I also used some on the area surrounding the cubby bin latch. When you snap that thing shut now, it sounds like it's made of wood.:D Actually, even just to lay things on and touch, the whole console feels nicer now. And believe me, that stuff isn't going anywhere in hot weather. It LOVED that console plastic. I'm quite surprised at just how sticky they have got this stuff nowadays. Screw that old asphalt crap. Xtreme is the cat's ass. After using this for a while now for installs, and now on my own vehicle as I see fit, I can say that if I couldn't afford this stuff, and there was no hope of saving the money, I still wouldn't go back to the old kind. I'd spray undercoating first.

I'm not surprised at how well it improves the feel and solidity of trim, I've seen that many times. What amazes me is just how far they have come in only a few years with this stuff. It used to be such a bitch to install, and it got so gummy in the heat that in some cases it was hardly any improvement. Now, though, I'd say go for it to people who aren't even interested in their sound system. Heck, it doesn't even smell anymore. It's win/win all the way, if you can swing the price.

I figured I'd not only roll it where everyone else does, I'd also try to use it intelligently to increase the feel of quality in the vehicle.

Sound is a given, I was going to do this for sound anyway. But now, I'm on a mission. I'm flat out tired of hopping in the vehicle and sweating with the A/C on. I'm going to put a stop to that. I know that as soon as I put that solid floor on the rack, there was an absolute world of difference in the interior temperature on hot days. For anyone with the chicken floor, you are missing out big time. It's worth all the hard work and money for the solid floor, just to get the lower interior temperatures.

I'm telling you, Ho, I know you are reading this :D, if you shut my console lid, you would go out and buy a roll of this stuff just for that alone.

Cheers,

Kennith

Well, If you think a "please" in the first instance was an unreasonable request, then you obviously treat people different to how I was brought up to do.

it was only my 3rd or 4th post here, and if I would have been "Ho" I would just have worded my request a little differently, infact I would have sent a PM about it, but thats obviously where we differ.

I had never spoke to the guy, had not been aware of anything I had done wrong, get accused of stealing pictures, when all I did was google for images which "anyone" can do.......and your right, if thats the way it is, Im glad I have not been around here long......

Man, you don't even see the hypocrisy, do you?

You put a function on your web page to prevent people from copying your pictures, but then go to another website and appropriate someone else's? I wonder if Ho would have even cared that you used his pictures had your hypocrisy not been so glaring (maybe, maybe not)?

Just because someone doesn't have a giant "DON'T COPY THIS" sign, doesn't mean you can just copy. Yes, we all do it, to one degree or another (c.f.. see the funny pictures in the various threads), but it doesn't make it right. Especially in a how-to article; without an acknowledgment, that's bordering on plagiarism.

Edited for grammar...Ho is watching

ffs, I don't consider google "images" someone elses website, and if I had known whos they were, I would have asked as I did with others...

But you dont see that do you......

I cannot ackowledge someone I don't know, and a no point did I say they were "my" pictures. You even say we all do it, and I also never said it was right...

I can see im banging my head against a brick wall, the pictures have been removed so lets leave it at that.

When I google for images, I find the small version of the image, and the url of the page where the picture is used. You must have gotten my pics from somewhere on my website. Or does Google host the images on their server now? And there's no way to trace where the original image came from?

it's ok, I have this:

and it feels pretty solid to me. :)

Damn, that's cool. A bit large, but very cool. I'll have to look into those, somebody had them, it was either you guys or AB. Any extra storage space is always a good thing.

Geez, though, you guys are always a step ahead out there.

indeed, I keep my flashlight in there:

and the radio mic when not in use.

That is slick, very slick. I might just get one of those. I'll have a look and see how much they are. What a good spot for my Surefire 6P. I bet it will fit nicely. The only problem I have with that light, is I bought it a week before the LED Defender came out.:banghead: I'd have waited if I knew that was coming.

Well, I got all the cables adjusted and hooked up right tonight. My word, this is so much better than that DI crap! It's as tight and precise as a gearbox out of a good sportscar. Absolutely worth every penny. If you are on the fence, save up for the 04 linkage if you can, it really is 500 bucks better.

As for putting the panel back in, I haven't done it yet. The rivet tool I bought to replace the one I apparently no longer have is messed up. I'll have to return it tomorrow and swap it for a new one. What a bummer, I was almost done.

Tillery did his best trying to find the clips I wanted but there were none around. He really put up a good fight for me, but the deck was stacked against him this time. Still a wonderful source of parts, and a great guy. It's not his fault he was out of what I was after. I just wanted to put it out there that he really tried his best, and is a great source of parts.

Drillbit was the one that had the clips. I bought them with the assembly from one of his Ebay auctions, and let him know the situation in a PM. I called him later, after labor day, and he had already shipped the assembly. He did a great job of getting everything to me very quickly, and everything was as described. The price was also reasonable for what I bought.

I could have rigged the thing with E clips, but I didn't want them in there. They would have rusted out quickly around the aluminum. They fit nicely enough though. In the end, Drillbit saved the day on this one, with a part I could find nowhere else, including the dealers, as Rover is back ordered on the entire assembly, currently for an indefinite period of time.

I thought I would also mention that I was unable to remove the interlock solenoid. I just don't have the dexterity. I went to the most difficult bolts first, just to see if I could do it at all. I've got some nerve damage, and I just couldn't keep hold of the wrench at that angle. Neither could I do it from underneath the truck, though I see that it would be possible, and that is how the workshop manual suggests it be done. That's something I'll have done at Cape Fear very soon. It can be got to from underneath, just not by me. I'd have to drop the T case to remove it. I can't even come close to changing plug wires on this thing without removing stuff.

I was able to get the panel back in today, in time for whatever weather we have coming our way over the next week or so.

My word, that undercoating and Dynamat worked wonders for noise in that area. The whole truck is much quieter. Some of this can be attributed to the DII style shifter mount over the DI mount, but I am confident that with further treatment, the Disco will be a very pleasant place to be.

The 04 linkage is spot on. It is an absolute pleasure to shift now. I am continually amazed at just how well it works. It feels like shifting gears in a sports car, only with more of a positive click on engagement. Absolutely wonderful.

The rubberized cork gasket worked well also. It was perfect for the job, and is much nicer than that horrible foam crap that came from the factory.

Cheers,

Kennith
