A buddy’s D2 would start flashing M&S and stall out and have a dead battery. Not knowing that’s an alternator problem, he replaced the battery.

After installing the new battery it won’t start and doesn’t have spark.

I’m told he does have fuel and all fuses are good.

Any ideas what to look at that would cut spark after changing the battery?

i had similar issues on my '04. turned out to be bad connections at the battery post clamps.

i replaced those and have been good to go since.

Flashing M&S is an indication of low voltage, not necessarily a bad alternator. I think jastutte is on to something.
Bet he has a code. P0562 Measurement Circuit OK Battery Voltage Low Fault
