1996 D1 rear axle breather

just remove the bolt and remove hose. You can put brake cleaner or degreaser in it and then blow air through it.

So totally clogged!! Used a drill and plenty of carb cleaner. Will tackle front one later.
It’s good that you checked it. If the axle can’t breathe it will build up pressure when it gets hot and find somewhere else to escape pushing oil out as well.

You can get a breather set up that lets your mount the filter at any high spot on the truck. I mounted mine next to the airbox. The push fittings screw right into your axle tubes. Very simple set up. The kit provides parts to do both axles. But the air filter block wI’ll accommodate 4 breather lines so you can do the tranny & transfer case if you buy additional parts.

Yep, smelled the very distinctive diff/gear oil by the driver’s side rear wheel and looked into the axle breather first. As I really don’t submerge the Rover the factory location is fine. We’ll shall see if any seals still need to be replaced yet initial observation shows good to go.
And shows need to look at all of them!
