1996 Eco-Challenge Discovery XD

My sons own a 1996 Eco-Challenge version Discovery XD. As far as I can determine, it is one of 28 XD Discos imported into North America for the 1996 Eco-Challenge competition in British Colombia. Other than that, we know very little about the vehicle except that it does have several differences from my '95 Disco.

Does anyone know any more info about these Eco-Challenge vehicles. We would like to know more info about these Discos (history, standard equipment, etc.). Does anyone else on these boards have one of these 28 XDs?

We will try to post some photos of their Disco and the "updates" and add-ons that we have been trying to make.

Where did you purchase it? And for how much, if you don't mind me asking?

I've got one from that year but it was used to choose the US camel trophy team. I think it was probably also used with eco challenge but I can't verify that. Is his a 5speed or Automatic?

Rust in the rear door jambs & on frame. Rest was ok. Had the LRSV plate in the engine compartment.

That must be a super rare truck if they replaced the cap and rotor since a '97 is GEMS.

Yes, that inconsistency was not lost on me. Engine was definitely a GEMS when I popped the hood. Seller runs a body shop and doesn't know a ton about Rovers. The SD rack was in excellent shape and the interior was great- had original seat covers in nice shape, too.

So what's the deal with these trucks? There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of info out there on them...some are saying they were dealer prepped promotional vehicles, others are saying they were used up in BC. Does anyone have the real scoop on them?
