1997 Disco Immobilized

Looking at purchasing another 1997 D1. It's sitting at a mechanic/restoration shop where it's been for a few months with a missing key fob and no start. The mechanic says it immobilized and the truck "thinks it's stolen" due to the missing key fob so the ECM is cutting power to the fuel pump. Owner is sick of dealing with it so I'm thinking about taking it on as a temp replacement while I restore my XD (and let my son think it's his).

Any quick suggestions to bypass the security? Or am I in for a key fob replacement and re-flash of the ECM?

Maybe send the 10AS unit to Logan Gibson and get a couple Fobs programmed to it? Last I checked he had some fobs.

Nothing's wrong with Google, but 1) I trust Dweb more than Google, 2) if I just used Google, I wouldn't get the snarky responses and interact with fine folks like yourself. It's half the fun!
What's wrong with Google?

Ha
There were times when PTSchram alluded to ways to bypass the immobilizer on RRC/D1, but never disclosed them.
One thing that happened to my D1 was this: a sticky door lock caused TWO fuses to blow feeding the green immobilizer box. I eventually replaced one with a circuit breaker, and haven't had an issue since 2001.

Starter motor circuit: black wire with orange stripe needs to be shorted to the ground. The only other _meaningful_ connection between ECU and alarm box is black wire.

He disclosed it, but not publicly posted because it makes the trucks easier to steal. You can PM him and he will gladly explain it.

Thanks @terryjm1 👍

Try a married ecu and 10as (green box) from ur other truck. That should at least make it run. Door microswitchs can cause issues too, especially driver door. But if we’re me I’d want to hear it run before I bought it. Worth mentioning there are advanced evap ecus in later D1. Ideally u want an ecu from an similar evap system. Good rover software is probably needed to fix it otherwise. Unless pt can be reached easily.

Thanks, going to look at it next weekend. Totally agree, want it to run before purchase!

You should be able to use the emergency key access code method. Hopefully you have the code for your truck. Otherwise 1515 may only work 1 time when you enter it.

Double check your engine management fuse under the steering wheel. I forgot which one but the corresponding picture on the label is an engine..
