Testing the waters, need to replace my discovery 2 and would like to see if anyone is interested in this beautiful 99 Callaway. You know it’s one of 220, number 159 per talks with reeves Callaway. I’ve had it for 4 or 5 years and spent time replacing and upgrading doing a light restoration of sorts, then got busy with work and haven’t driven it much. It got a new front bumper, repainted roof, added brush guard, tune up, a few sensors and underhood repairs, added factory roof rack, new tires, brake pads, new front airbags, factory rubber floor mats and missing interior bits replaced or corrected. Found original sales brochure, original owners manual binder, found the dvds for James navigation but don’t have southeast disc unfortunately. Truck is rust free and in great shape at 103k miles and has been indoors last four years.

Tires have flat spots from sitting but should smooth out, maybe 500 miles. One size bigger 265/60r18, rubs mudflap at lower suspension height in reverse when turning but not at normal height, I was going to reprogram eas height to solve this and still can.F09C0E23-9A45-48F9-A474-7FE3DC3593B7.jpeg EAS Air suspension works well but leaks down after a few weeks have to crank it every so often to keep it aired up. The lcd screen for hvac and radio are poor as usual. I bought a ribbon cable but have misplaced it now. Cruise control vacuum line is split again. Driver seat stiching is split about two to three inches on backrest, other truck has good back in same ash color or it could be gently restitched. Reds door puddle lights. A/c quits blowing cool after 15 minutes and book symbol pops up, I can hear a blend door popping on driver side. Haven’t checked any further. Paint on hood is a respect and reacting a bit and should be resprayed to be perfect. All paint except top surfaces is one and shines well. That’s about all I know that’s wrong. No warning lights on dash. Runs very strong compared to any other p38.
Has all appropriate Callaway stickers on airbox, transfer case, intake manifold, exhaust, bodywork, shifter handle, etc.
I think it should be preserved and protected not driven daily, finish these few things I was going to get to and you have a real gem. The red color is the rarest of all as it was not intended to be made in the first place, and I’ve only seen a few pictures online of other red examples. I would not doubt if less than 10 red Callaway’s were ever made. Accepting all reasonable offers. I have a 98 4.6 hse in good running shape for parts if desired, has a few electrical flaws but runs and drives well for additional cost. These are dirty pictures I haven’t washed or cleaned it in months. I would like to get 12k to a good home, make offers though. One of the Rarest p38s you’ll find low miles and not castrated.

So for what its worth this is really a Callaway edition truck. The bumpers didn't look right to me but maybe in red the painted bumper was just too much. Still on air suspension makes it so much more desirable. Hasn't been molested yet by looking at the pictures.

So, are you able to strike a deal? You are properly one of a few able to keep it running properly.

I would probably want it if it wasn't red. I hope he gets all of that. If he doesn't maybe I can get it. Honestly I think its worth probably close to that. But nobody wants P38's yet. They will someday. This one still being on air suspension, stock radio, low miles. I like it. Probably spent it's whole life in the south. If someone is looking for a P38, this is a good one to go see.

I'm not sure about that, sounds right. But normally they have a painted bumper and not that black stuff that fades in the sun. But I ran the vin. and it's a Callaway.

I talked in detail with reeves (Callaway) when I first purchased the truck. He was able to provide me with the serial number of the truck since it has the navigation system that otherwise displaces the dash plaque found on most of them. He said when the team went to solihul to build these at the last few weeks of the year 1998, on the main production line, that there were not enough bodies in epsom green or niagra grey and they ended up building an untold “few” in red and possibly a black one or two also to fulfill production numbers. 220 were intended and he says 230 something were made. Yes it’s been here in the south it’s whole life. The air duct was supposed to be carbon fiber, many crack and break, this has a Land Rover replacement duct installed by dealer for previous owner. Actually fits the bigger throttle without any issues, is rubber and should last a long time. The duct had to be larger than a standard p38 due to throttle opening being larger than standard. The replacement still lacks the sound resonance chambers as the carbon pipe would have. When I purchased it the passenger side front of the bumper was busted around the fog light, I installed another one in great shape and I repainted the bumper to match. I can imagine the full red bumpers, grille, etc would be too loud in red. I asked reeves about this and he said some were done different than others best he could recall. but I have no explanation other than it could have had a bumper replacement front and rear at some point in its life. I certainly replaced the front one and added the bull bar, and roof rack, etc for added kit. I Just prefer them with those options and have had several and others still in the family still going strong but with the same usual hvac screen and other quirks a p38 owner comes to know quite well. The eas is something I wanted to keep functional on this truck due to its rarity, but most others i work on have been converted to springs. Reeves said he had some new emblems made for these that were nicer than the original decals, I may call him to see if he still has a set.

That's really nice. And would go nicely with my Red Honda CR125, Red Honda CR480, Red Ducati 916, Red Ford F150...

But I'd end up fucking it up.

Reeves made a comment on the last Callaway RR that sold on Bring A Trailer (@7700 but it had been wrecked and repaired and had 101k miles)

The Callaway Range Rovers were not built by Callaway Cars. They were built by Range Rover. We helped engineered many new facets of the automobile under the direction of Land Rover. We manufactured many of these parts in the USA, some in Germany, and supplied them to the production line in Solihull UK. 235 units, one for each dealer, were made and they were an official product of the Range Rover lineup for 1999 only. To that date these were the highest performance Range Rovers ever produced, and also, the most expensive. Full technical details can be found at the archive section at CallawayCars.com. They were terrific vehicles that were produced mainly to solve the reputational problem that Range Rovers of those years were ‘glacial’. Problem solved. I still drive one to this day. Probably my favorite daily driver.
-Reeves Callaway

The auction range is all over the board, but someone with a bit of knowledge of these who could repair the needs on it cheaply, and invest a couple hundred in a detail and photo session could likely make a few grand off of it.

Or keep it and make more later. Likely much more.
