Has anyone had a vibration in the front end ? The vibration only happens under power. Once I let off the thrittle. No vibration. Also when I slowly go up a hill. I hear clanking. Riding slowly there is a squeaking. Sounds like a cricket.. Drive shaft ? Or wheel bearing ?

My wife had some squeeks and some vibrations in her '99 D2. Now she has a new front drive shaft, transmission and cats. That front shaft went out in a spectacular fashion just off the interstate! Don't keep on driving your rig...

Make sure you replace with a shaft that has zerk fittings so you can grease it on a periodic basis. Don't replace with stock or you'll be back in the same position in another 50k.

Lucky 8 carries the Tom Woods brand. GBR Utah has their own. Both are top notch and around $400+. You can cheap out, but as with many things in life, will only lead to regret, sadness and a much bigger hole in your bank account.

I would not recommend it for very long, but you can drive a CDL-equipped D2 without the front driveshaft if you have to. A 2000 should have a CDL.

Definitely spend the money for a good driveshaft. I put the cheaper stock-style one from Lucky 8 in one of my trucks and it vibrated as bad as the 109K stock unit. The Tom Woods front shaft in one of my 04 D2s vibrates around 75mph+. I had a local driveshaft shop rebalance it after about 3,000 miles and its better, but still noticeable. Very stout unit, but may be more for offroaders than a grocery-getter. I might just have bad luck with front shafts though, as the "rebuilt" unit I recently bought from a local Rover place sounded like rocks in a blender just pulling away from my driveway.

I sure am glad to hear this. I had the same vibration with the cheap Lucky8 and thought I'd done something wrong. I even took it to a driveshaft place and had them balance it. No difference. Can't anyone make a simple, inexpensive front prop shaft? What's the big deal?

Must be somethin' else if a shop balanced it.

I thought so too, but it had no vibration when I had the old, stock unit in. Dunno. It's a very small vibration, so maybe I'm making more of it than it rates.
