2002 D2 hi/low gear selection issue

I've just replaced the seal between the transfer case and the gear box and in doing so had to cut the hi/low gear selector cable as well as remove the lever on the end of the driver selector mechanism to get the old cable off, in order to be able to withdraw the transfer case to carry out seal replacement. Now I've everything back together with a new Britpart FTC4772 cable fitted. However now the car won't move when any gearbox gear is selected prompting me to concluding that I'm not selecting either hi or low range. I've had a couple of goes at adjusting the cable and checking the lever position but to no avail. I've reasoned even if the cable adjuster is incorrect I should be able to get hi or low because it will either push to cable into high range or pull it into low range but still I'm not convinced I'm selecting either? Has anyone experienced this issue before and if so what can I do to confirm I'm actually selecting either high or low range. I should also say I'm not getting any audible alarm or warning lamp to say 'I'm in neutral and don't know if that has some mitigating electronic control issue as to why the car won't drive. Thanks

You should be able to access the Hi/Low arm on the transfer case from underneath the vehicle. Disconnect the cable from the transfer case and manually move the selector. I believe it's connected with a pin and cotter pin or clip. If that works, something funky is up with the new cable.
