Thanks for adding substance to my definition.

it needs something else, it has substance, it is coming from you, right? so, of course it is profound and electronically esoteric substance.

oh, wait, it needs a fucking point. by the way, stop using semi-colons. you use them incorrectly and you're not John Irving.

fuck it, i'll give the wife's D2 and $1300 cash.

If the D2 is an '04 in perfect condition, white with tan, leather/sunroofs/cold weather options, under 60k miles, and has a nice td5/manual conversion + some simple useful mods like lockers, on board air, dual batteries, Rovertime or OME lift/bits, and tires as good as mine, then OK. Let's do IT!

Yeah, I know but I've never liked the way they spell it. At least you picked up on that. I'll use RTE from now on. Or Rover-Thyme

Yes I am assuming some kind of very informal agreement. Lots of guys did it (and I did it too) where we had a list of vehicles people wanted, the price and a range of options (color, mileage, etc) that had preferences for.

If you're already at the auction like every dealer is at least once a week, it's easy money. As I always like to say, "a quick nickel is better than a slow dime". This way you don't have to floor plan or finance the vehicle or even bother with getting it ready for the lot/showroom.

Just make sure it's not some odd ball car that you'd never be able to sell if you get screwed.

This isn't all that uncommon. I talked with our local "used import" dealer, mechanic (sad, we only have one...) about looking for a 97/98 BMW M3 4 door. I was going to buy that and a 99/00 D2. Then I found my 2003 HSE and shot the wad on it....it was too nice a ride.

Point is, if you have a relationship with them (buy parts, cars (we bought a Volvo previously), get stuff fixed, whatever), you can work something out. I was looking at ~500 over auction, but that was with the understanding that I was buying a car that he thought was OK; anything went bad, that was on me. Just like if I bought a used car and brought it to him for an inspection. No problem by me.
