I used the timing sensor tool and the big crank pulley set up. I put the jackstand under it to transfer all the force onto the stand and reduce stress on the sensor tool.
Worked very well to get a 4 ft pole on the wrench to really pull it well.
I did not pull the starter.
That’s how Land Rover tells you to do it. But it’s cumbersome and not necessary if you have the crank locked with the tool in the starter hole.
I’m saying I met a guy one time who told me he holds the flywheel with that little tool in the crank sensor hole. We had a recall for replacing the front crank bolt within a vin break. I think they said air bubbles or some other imperfection in the bolt. Guys got really creative

I’ve never removed the starter to install that one tool. I pull the crank sensor tool when I tighten the crank bolt because I’m paranoid of damaging the flywheel.

For the crank bolt recall we made a tool that slide over the crank pulley bolts and had a cutout for a 1/2” breaker bar. We really only used that on Jaguar F Types because there isn’t room for the impact.

a weighted socket is the best thing though.
