The more I see this thread, the more I think you should just restore your D2.

You don't really like anything else out there, and you have the capability of doing the job. It'll probably cost you less than a new vehicle, even as meticulous as you are. Granted it'll be a time sink, but get rid of the crappy Impala you're working on and there ya go.

I've been driving my daughter's D2 this week (used to me mine...) and am reminded of how much I love it. If it weren't for the rust cancer, I'd probably keep it forever.

That's the objective with the Impala. The sale will take a fair chunk out of pretty much anything I want to do, so I've still got to get it to a certain point. There's always the possibility that I actually like driving it. I doubt it, but it's a possibility. If so, I can make that car be whatever I want.

The DII will be visiting what I've observed to be an extremely good restoration shop soon for some estimates if they'll give them. I'm not sure what they'll tell me, but I'll be asking a lot of questions. I can only do rudimentary body work, and I cannot weld to my own standards, so I'll have to pay to get the body and paint made new again. If I'm doing all that, I'm going to go all the fucking way with the vehicle. The entire budget would be dumped into the process to finalize my intentions.

I get everything I want in that scenario.

I find that suspicious and feel that I am missing some important consideration or another, so the search for a new vehicle continues while I stuff the old wallet as much as reasonable.

Sedans are still on the table. There are a few I've been considering, and that damned Lincoln Continental is right up there in the charts. That doesn't leave me with a finished Rover, though. I'm only willing to spend so much, but I'll split the difference and wait longer if the car is right.

The primary reason I'm after vehicle is so I don't have to work on anything if I don't want to. The Impala can meet that standard, obviously, as there are no regulatory limitations. The DII is always subject to need a bit of tinkering. Right now it's a little iffy, but it's a reliable vehicle; it's not a vehicle I can always say will pass an emissions inspection without a headache, though.

Eh, I've got some time. I'm going to sell some stuff to pay for whatever I do, and that gives me a while to explore all the options. I'll have time to test the new Rovers and perhaps even check out the Defender if they keep to their schedule this time.

I'm just not out to replace the DII.

I saw that on AEV's website, and then saw those TFL dinguses test it against the Gladiator. I'd have called that test a tie minus one obstacle, which surprised me. I was expecting a total victory, given the Gladiator's wheelbase. That's not what turned me off, though.

I don't know how tall those guys are, but I'll bet they're taller than I am, and when the round one complained about not being able to see over that hood... Well, I don't expect everyone to appreciate the issue, but it is genuinely annoying when that happens. :ROFLMAO:

There is probably a personal incompatibility, there.
