Exactly. And probably better than open front / rear diffs even with center locking found on the Def, RRC, D1 family.

Funny enough at our last ride for the year a few weeks ago, We had the whole gambit. From a series truck, to P38, D2, D1, D90 and LR3. Guess which one of those had to turn around and go back to camp because they couldnt make it up the wet hill? Yep the LR3 with sliders and 18" wheels on Ko2's Could have been driver error, but he beat that truck and finally gave up. Only myself and the D90 had lockers.

2 for 1, Defender and Gladiator at the bottom, clever placement.

Per the article: "Spy photos of new Defenders being tested suggest that it will use a fully independent suspension along with the rest of the Land Rover lineup, rather than the live axles of the previous editions and the current Jeep Wrangler, but the automaker promises that it will be the most-capable off-roader it has ever built."

Those are strong words. Maybe it will have optional F+R lockers? That would be the only way to make that statement true.

LR3 weighs more than my crew cab F150. Pigs can't climb. They make great mud anchors too.

I wonder if the new Defender will have the same cutesy, quirky commercials that Land Rover is putting out now....where the chick lowers the ride height to let her little rat dog jump in the back because she's too fucking lazy to pick it up, or the snob suburbanite mom "helps" the beleaguered dad with all the beach crap by lowering the back seats with his iphone app, or the dad in the driver's seat getting pelted with rubberbands flushes out his little shit bastard kids by folding down the second row seats. Best 4x4xFar for sure.

Don?t think comparing a LR3 on AT?s to a D90/D2 locker on MT?s is apples to apples.... That being said the first time I wheeled mine I could really feel the weight on some cross slopes

I haven't seen any of these, but I find your descriptions to be particularly entertaining.

I forgot the one where the little mangy gangster-wanna-be kids break & enter then ransack mom's Discovery looking for valuables to steal and they look in every cubby and storage space and don't find shit, then mom busts them and opens the one secret cubby up front where she keeps her milk chocolate and crack cocaine.

The Series, P38, D1 and couple other D2's were not locked, and they got through just fine. It was a sloppy shit show, and momentum was needed. It seemed like the TC in the LR3 kept cutting power when he needed it the most. So again, it could have been user error or (wrong terrain setting)

Just stating the facts. Out of 5-6 trucks, only the LR3 had to turn around.

Why didn't you help him through?

This was on Rm loop going up at the very beginning. He was smart and decided since he had to drive home to VA he wasnt going to tear up his truck. It only got harder from there. I would have pulled him up if he had wanted to.

Sounds like he left DSC on. Rookie LR3 mistake.

That and those tires. An LR3 can really make use of a touch more bite, and if it's the trail pictured, that's some seriously snotty stuff. Weight is certainly an issue, and there are absolutely systems that should be disabled for a snotty climb.

Land Rovers always end up heavy, but I would imagine the Defender won't tip the scales quite as bad. Those luxury features are fucking heavy, and I doubt it'll be too equipped, in that regard. The LR3 and 4 were a bit over-built for their purpose, in my opinion.

That top shot in one of the linked articles is really making me think it's got a removable hard top. I sure hope so. It may never come off, but I think it's going to be an important feature to sell the vehicle to people who want a more traditional profile.

I just can't wait to see how much of that shape is foam and fiberglass under the wrap. I'm not sure we actually have much of an idea what this thing is going to look like.

Cheers,

Kennith
