So rear locker is optional and no front locker option, but they claim this is the most capable Rover yet.. I still think its garbage.

I can’t see myself paying $55k for the 90 or more for the 110. Pricing is pretty disappointing. I could see myself not scoffing at paying $40k for the 90. But at $55k you’re looking at a well equipped diesel 4x4 F250, a fully optioned out Ranger, and any combo of Jeep Wrangler with loads of options added.

I’m trying to figure out who their target buyer is and exactly what they’re supposed to be competing against besides the Discovery 5.

This is the big question. For the life of me I can’t understand why JLR can’t do what Mercedes, Jeep, and even Suzuki have done. I mean, if they want to abandon that market, fine. But then why waste time and money rolling this out?

That front-end gets me every time I see it. They should have done away with the bulk of it:

Thats exactly right. Their biggest competition are themselves! Not the best business plan if you ask me.

Compared to the abomination of the DC100 and whatever other concepts preceded the new release, this production version of the new Defender looks great. I don't care for all the plasticky exterior finish touches - I didn't like that part of the LR3 styling, either. I'm looking forward to driving one.

Well I'm sure glad they didn't bring something like this to the states. You probably couldn't give them away.

To be clear not the V8 and 0-60 in 6 seconds BS, but just that body style. That would seriously make me consider a Land Rover again.

As for this Defender, if they had branded it as a Discovery/RR Sport, or Extreme, or whatever my opinion would be a lot more positive. But that thing ain't no Defender, IMO. I would wonder if anyone in upper management has come up through the ranks/been involved with the company long enough to understand what the names Land Rover or Defender mean to a lot of people.

I agree with may of the comments. This would have been much better marketed as the Disco 5. It has more in common with the LR3/4 than is does the Defender.

But it's still on my radar for my next truck. My "youngest" vehicle is already over 15 y/o.

It looks alright in this video. Not sure they’ve done right by the name, but it’s definitely more pleasing to the eye than the Discovery 5. This is still at least 5 years too late.

It's here... I don't love it but I don't hate it either, it may grow on me. I wonder if they would respond to that #newdefender Impressive launch as expected.

Still lukewarm on the vehicle itself. Looked through the vehicle configuration page on their website and they do have some pretty cool accessories. That being said, you can option one to 70 grand pretty easily. Wonder how the depreciation will be on these...
