Al those brush guards are good for is guaranteeing smashed headlights, hood, and fenders in an accident. Ask me how I know.
I had the factory taillight guards on my first Range Rover.
Came that way.
Off-road, I was doing a turn-around in a limited space.
Backed into something or other.
The taillight guard broke, and crunched into my taillight.
$300 taillight guard, protecting a $100 taillight assembly.
Fucking brilliant.

All the recent articles about the new Defender are disappointing. They say something to the effect of many models... then mention luxury options and editions. I can see exactly where the Defender is going to end up. Just like every other vehicle in their lineup.

I hope not, because I'm having trouble seeing why they need them all. What the fuck is the Velar, again?

Cheers,

Kennith

They are designing vehicles for the buyers that have already bought one of their other vehicles. It makes no sense. I’m not sure who this is actually supposed to appeal to any more. I thought it was going to be more modular for the former Defender users. Modular apparently means luxury trim levels.

What do you expect? Until the automotive press has a chance to see the thing in person and drive the new Defender all the coverage of it is going to be short on meaningful content and long on speculation. Even when the press do get to drive it, whatever they say will be no substitute for your personal experience. Might as well ignore most of it and keep wrenching on your current truck until there is a new Defender to check out at the dealer.

These look pretty promising .... a rear door that won't clonk you on the head is a big plus.

Yep, so did mine when I bought it. When redoing it made sure they didn’t go back on.

My concern was it catching on something and being ripped off, tearing the body panel.
You mean like this? My kid side swiped a very small tree at exactly the wrong place.

I've got a buddy who's the sales manager at a JLR dealer, he says they've confirmed that the new defender will start at ~55k.
