So just for fun, I did some quick google searches to compare this to the LR3. While the new Defender can raise itself higher than the LR3 can by 2". The wheelbase is longer on the Defender which then makes the breakover angle on the Defender(110) worse than the LR3. Thats a big deal for IFS/IRS trucks.
Approach angle is almost identical, as is the departure angle.
So with both having factory rear lockers available. Tell me how this is new Defender is any different than an LR3/4? The 90 version has slightly better numbers, but still not better than the LR3. At least thats the story the numbers tell. Oh and the 110 is actually a 119" wheelbase now.

I know these numbers dont mean much to most people, but its interesting to compare. Especially since LR claims this is the most capable LR yet! If they had offered a front locker as well, then I might actually give it a chance

With all the pics out in the last 24 hours, I'm actually starting to warm up to it. With a few caveats: 1) that front-end is still horrible, 2) this should have been the Disco 5, 3) pricing.

Watch this video and tell me if you can see the new Defender surving in the same conditions.
Well that's the thing, right? They made what I'm starting to warm up to as a pretty cool car. They just shouldn't have called it a Defender. They should simply have MaDe A fUCkiNg DEFENDER.

If the electronics survive, it should perform well.

I have no doubt they will embark on several "expeditions" to showcase the new model. Will be interesting, and possibly telling, to see how they approach these.

Ford or Land Rover
When Ford owned LR you could see some shared styling cues between the brands. I still see Explorers and mistake them for Range Rovers. Then something just hit me. Land Rover went the other way with the new Defender, they borrowed from Ford.
Tell me this is not a Defender 120, flat front and rear, long flat roof line.
My wife has owned a Ford Flex since 2009 and the new Defender looks lust like it, raise it up for ground clearance, alpine windows and you have it. The Flex fits in nicely with the 90, 110, and 130 wheelbase lines. The Flex is 117 inches, we will call it the 120 and boom, you just added to the line with a city Defender.

So it looks as though the LR3 and LR4 have different specs.
Im seeing for the LR3 in Offroad mode:
Approach: 37.2
Break over: 27.9
Departure: 29.6
Ground clearance: 9.5
Wading: 27.6
curb weiaght: 5796
And the important one. Wheelbase for the LR3 is 113.6 Its 119 for the Defender. So even though the Defender is taller, its also longer so the break over ends up being the about the same. The lR4 seems to be significantly less. The 90 has the best numbers. But back to my original comment of how is this new Defender so much better than an LR3? I just dont see it. Must be in the Terrain response ?

Could be wrong, but I'd expect LR3/4 difference to be negligible, so I suspect there's a difference in accuracy or measurement strategy going on here. Depending which set of data is more accurate, it does leave the LR3/4 vs Newfender comparison somewhere between "insignificant" and "incremental improvement". Hard to determine over the internet though.

Looks like optional steelies at least 😆
Yea. we went thru all the info they put out today. We saw a really cool looking set of white steelies. It was just a blip on one of the videos. but they looked great. 49.9 stripped down with steelies and the inginium 4 cyl gas engine. But you won't be able to order a 90 for a few months after the 110's go on sale in March.
I gotta see one in person before I decide how I feel about it. Pics and video don't give you a real feel for the vehicle.

After going through the build your own configuration I now have a better understanding on why it took so long to develop and bring to market. The amount of options from which to choose is dizzying. Guess they decided to follow Porsche in this regard.

Gotta admit, I kinda like that matte green 90 on the right. Apologies in advance for the toolbag narrating the vid...
