The irony of reading that a day after watching the John Deere service tec plug a laptop into the rental tractor we have. Not that that takes away from your point.

How powerful is the blower motor, and how cold is the air coming out of that vent? I like a fucking blizzard or dragon breath; nothing in between.

I've been curious about the climate control in that car ever since I first saw it, but nobody ever reviews climate control.
Heating air is a really bad use of electricity. Nissan (and GM?) figured out that if you heat the seats and the steering wheel, people feel warm enought that you don't have to heat the whole cabin. I don't know what temp they were working at, so not sure how well that would play in northern MI, but the heated seats in my D2 were awesome in MI winters. May just have to heat the air only a little (say, to 45C vs 70C)

At least with cooling you can use a compressor (a small HP(electricity) drag) and/or remove humidity to make it feel cooler (again, in AZ it may not work out well).

Interesting way to look at this. Saab gets the credit for making a heated driver’s seat standard equipment on the Saab 99, the smaller Saab 96 sedan, and the Saab 95 station wagon in 1972.

The owners manual in my 2004 Saab says that after the seat gets warm turn off the seat heater. This gives time for the heater to do its job and heat the cabin.

As I don’t drive a vehicle bundled up like I’m going out in the woods on a Winter hike, having the cabin warm works.

Yeah, those DII seats will light your ass on fire. In general, however, the one thing you'll always get tons of inside of a DII is heat. It's always coming through the vents one way or another, and the tunnel get very hot. I think my blender is getting stuck, though, which is really killing the airflow at this point.

Honestly, I'd be happy with three knobs; but overall the controls in the DII are very easy to operate, if slow to adjust. The air conditioner just plain sucks, though. It also sucks on my Infiniti, my Jaguar, its non-existent on my Impala, smells like hell in the dog-shit Dakota... Whatever I get next will have a very good climate control system.

I also suffer motion sickness now, which is tempered by cold air being blown in my face under greater than Land Rover pressure.

I'm considering replacing the entire climate control system in the DII, panel and all, with an aftermarket unit meant for big American classics. That's a big can of worms, but maybe if I yank it all it'll be easy enough. I've sweat my balls off in too many deserts in clunky old junkers to want to deal with that here.

Many years ago, I got used to yanking the duct from behind the HMMWV dash and shoving it up my flack jacket. Once I figured that out, I've been addicted to hot airflow, as well. :ROFLMAO:

Cheers,

Kennith

I think Texas would be a great place to live if you could get all those Texans out of there

My brother lives in NM and would agree. On the other hand, my daughter seems to like it there and has made a very good life for herself. I guess she has California and their taxes and such to thank for that. Just a matter of how long it takes them to turn Texas into California.

Now I was able to kind of spec out a D90. Stripped down to steel wheels and springs. The only upgrade was a cold climate pack and upgraded audio. Should come in at 40 grand. Still won't get it till late in 2020.

Then why is Landy Rover offering coils?

I would suspect a lower price point for fleets, and to be able to advertise at less than $50,000. Some people also just don't want air suspension.

What that means in the future is that it's already designed to fit coils, so if that air system fails, it shouldn't be a big deal.

Where were did you find the "build it"? All I can find on the LR website is build a 110.

Fuck that. I don't want to pay for it. The center jump seat is cool, but it comes with the rear view camera on the roof.
Don’t cheap out to get inferior performance. It’s amazing how air suspension works on these modern Rovers. Don’t act like air suspension is a weak point with as many computers as this thing has in it

Center jump seat is ridiculous. NOBODY wants to ride there, EVER. My new Chevy pickup at work came with an armrest/center jump seat. I told them to get rid of that and replace it with the optional center console. The fleet guy asked " what about the seat?". I said Eff that, they can take another truck.
The Rover center jump seat is a gimmick that no one wants.

I know places where those seats are used constantly, but I struggle to imagine why Land Rover thought it made sense here.

On the 90, perhaps there's a slight case to be made. It's not much of a case, though.

Any utility it would bring is destroyed by the dimensions of that interior combined with the fact that it's a new car. New cars don't end up full of villagers and chickens; at least not in my experience. Honestly, I'm not overly concerned about it, though...

That rear door kills the vehicle. It was a foolish decision:

Any discussion of whether or not a jump seat makes sense is irrelevant. I don't know what they thought they were doing in there, but nowhere in the universe does that make an ounce of sense. I can barely get past the seats that don't flip forward...

The door back there, though? Nope.

They did very well with the dash board and center console, but it seems everything behind the front seats is... Well, to be completely honest, it makes less sense than a Nissan Juke. I do not understand why the rear was designed in such a manner. I can think of no good reason whatsoever.

If they start hitting the dealer and the air suspension is a noticeable improvement I'll spring for it. But I think the steel springs will be fine.
