95 D1 with around 111,000 miles been having starting issues randomly. Cranks but won’t fire when it finally does it’ll sputter for a bit then even out. Been getting progressively worse over the past week. It’s getting fuel just won’t fire. Today changed plugs wires cap, lead to coil and rotor still having starting issues. The ignition coil is the only thing left in the system that would cause starting problems.

Nex time you drive it, see if the coil is getting excessively hot or just test it with a multimeter.

Also, possibly the amp module. What distributor are you running? What is the fuel pressure? Check for vacuum leaks?

Original distributor replaced cap and rotor. Going to try new ignition cap. It’s getting fuel. Also checked vacuum lies they look good.

So I replaced the ignition cap with a universal Accell still nothing. Seem to have power at the coil checked fuses under hood nothing blown. I can smell fuel so it’s getting fuel just won’t fire.

Not sure if I would use a universal cap. Do you have spark at the plug when cranking? If not, figure out where it’s getting lost. You can also check the air gap on the distributor.

Tried another rotor still nothing. I pulled the cover off the fuel pump and when the key is turned it gurgled a couple of times but did not hum.

Does your fuel rail have a schrader valve? If so, test and see what it reads. No reason to guess if you’re getting fuel or not.

It does I don’t have a fuel pressure gauge. Getting one tomorrow. I read that you could test with a tire pressure gauge. I tried to be trying and nothing so I also read that it should spray when pushed. It didn’t spray it was more of a spit. It shot out but it was just one big drop if that makes sense.
I’ll get the proper tools and check it tomorrow.

It does. If the key is turned to position 2, it should keep spraying when you push the valve needle. If it doesn’t, likely your pump is done.

Yea, it’s probably dead. Did you verify power at the pump? Just a good idea to check before spending money on the pump.

Any codes on the LCD read out under the seat? I have a 95 project I've been working on and the previous owner just threw parts at it. They replaced fuel the fuel pump, fuel filter, and even changed out the distributor. They said it either lacked power, wouldn't start/restart, or ran awful. Well I got it and it ran, but very rough. I did not like the hack job on the chinese distributor they installed so I swapped it with a good OEM spare.

I got it to start, but after running for maybe 2min I shut it off to get my timing light setup, and then it would not restart. Smelled fuel like it was flooded. Looked at LCD display and had a code 14. Which is for the temp sensor or fuel temp sensor. Just for kicks I disconnected the battery, and even swapped the ECU. Upon a key cycle to start it 14 popped back up on the LCD (D1 did not start). Swapped out the fuel temp sensor, and it cranked up right away and has been running fine ever since.

The other thing to check for corrosion is the short lead from the frame rail to the pump. Sometimes those get corroded & fail causing little to no voltage to reach the fuel pump.
