Alarm problem

I am slowly getting the little bugs out of a 96 D1. I’m finally to the point I am taking it for occasional daily drives. I am having the issue of parking it, locking it with the FOB and it will occasionally activate the alarm without anything causing it. As such, it still can’t be a daily driver because I cant lock it due to never knowing when the alarm will activate. Frankly, I wish I could just deactivate the alarm function.

For background on this, it didn’t come with FOBs. I purchased 2 and sent the 10AS and FOBS off to be programmed and 10AS checked out. They programmed fine and the 10AS checked out good.

I installed it and immediately realized 4 out of the 5 doors’ power locks didn’t work and or worked poorly. Driver door is the only one that reliably worked. I repaired the others. All 4 had broken lock springs. One actuator was dead (split open) as well. I replaced the springs and the bad actuator. The locks all then worked as they should.

I know the hood switch is a place to look. Anything else common to look at for the cause?

Thanks in advance,

Terry

It’s been so long since I’ve seen an operable T4 I can’t remember if it has a PID for alarm trigger history. That’s normally how that’s figured out. I would be looking at the hood switch for sure.
See what it wants with hood open. That switch is most likely open or closed with the hood closed. Give it what it wants with the hood closed and see if that does anything. If it wants it open just leave it unplugged, if it wants it closed circuit then jumper the wires together.
But also keep in mind these old cars monitor the door opening and closing with those little switches in the pillars. Do your dome lights work from all the doors?

The door pin switches get their ground from the mounting screw. So make sure none are loose and none of their supply wires is shorting out. Cargo door too.

Here is a really good video on the D1 alarm system.

Thank you!
No worries. And that video taught me a lot of things I never knew about the alarm system. Like locking the truck with the key will only activate part of the alarm system, but not motion in case you leave the dog inside the tr or whatever.

It’s worth watching.

It’s been my experience that the little micro switch in the drivers door lock gets finicky. Usually because the plastic activation cam is cracked or broken. I’ve had this happen on a couple different Discos. I bypassed the switch, but I also only use a key. The locks all work but now I can unlock any door first. Obviously, you will not have an alarm function at all.

If I bypass it will the fob still lock/unlock the doors?

That volumetric sensing was only on the Disco2 and P38 but we deleted it with a recall on the Disco. We installed a plastic trim piece where the sensor was. Yes a dog left inside would fuck it up, but also leaving your window cracked open to let heat out in summer would cause problems too.
That is good information you posted. I’m finding lately that better info sometimes comes from sources outside of JLR.

I am back looking at this issue and figured I should follow up. . I disconnected the the switch and my false alarms seem to have gone away. Now to decide if I want to fix it or just leave it that way. I started a new post about that.
