Well...its been a long road, but the end is near. I got this truck with a very tired 2.5 NAD, and after a lot of sweat, cursing, launching wrenches across the shop and the dog running for cover at times, she is back on the road and running like a dream. The "new" motor runs much smoother and quieter than the older one, and with the newly re-cored radiator...life is good.
The pic is from a local charity car show Saturday that I set up at. The next test is a run to NW Pa. starting Thursday. If she passes that test....its off to VOT.

Just completed the 1k mile shake down run to Pa and back. Averaged 24 mpg, and no leaks! The truck drew plenty of attention on the Pa pike and a crowd at the Outback in Erie. I even found some mud to play in. All in all I think shes ready for Vermont. Gotta start packing......

No leaks? As in no OIL leaks or it "didn't rain" leaks? ;)

Congrats on getting the truck up and running for the VOT. Lot of work, and it looks good.

Well...as you have read and seen, '13 VOT is in the books. Margret took the event in stride,, and didn't miss a beat the whole time. Low range...1st/2nd gear and point her in the direction you want to go....and hold on. This is the first time I have had her off road, and I must say...I am duly impressed. The 2.5 might not be fast, but truly does go just about anywhere.
I never thought I would ever have a 110, and truth be told, never really wanted one. Now that I have one, been knee deep in diesel oil, ripped her heart out, transplanted the power plant, traveled on the main roads, and now the back roads and trails, I wouldn't trade her for the world!

I agree! The 2.5 NA has the sluggish (earned) reputation. But off-road, it's a great engine! Now.... After driving a V8 for so many years you get used to the additional power...... ;)

No1 son has a Defender 110 County Station Wagon that we bought off ebay as a CatC write-off.

We put a new galvanised under it and rebuilt it for the special inspection that CatC requires. All passed OK, we had no choice with the chassis as the PO had hit a tree stump and torn the front axle radius arm bracket off the chassis and other damage.

The main reason for commenting was that No2 son had a Series III into which he fitted a 2.5n/a 12J engine, which was later replaced by the 2.5 turbo 19J engine. The turbo is nice in that it doesn't give great gobs of power but a useful increase over the 12J.

A lot of the 12J, 19J and 200TDi bits are common, things like camshafts etc.

The Defender CSW is a 1991 with 200TDi.

I was fortunate that my 2.5NA was rebuilt for MOD prior to me getting the 90. I don't care that it is slow, I'd daily drive it if it had A/C. Heck, as soon as I get the power steering on, I might DD drive it during the fall and winter.
