I wonder how many of us would keel over if we actually lined up every receipt for our vehicles; purchase price, mods and all, and then added them up...

I track every single repair I do and every part I purchase for my Rovers, including tools. I do not track expenses like fuel, windshield wiper fluid, public lands permits, parking, or other minor incidentals. Everything from fluid changes on up goes into a large spreadsheet showing date and odometer reading. If I could claim a deduction on my tax return for all the money I spend on stuff from Tillery...I could buy even more parts.

I track the same stuff, but I never actually read it... I value too greatly what's left of my questionable sanity. :ROFLMAO:

The folder is about four inches thick, at this point, and I suspect half again as much will be added over the coming year, or so.

Cheers,

That is certainly true.

Raise your hand if you think you've spent at least $70,000. Raise both if you think you've cracked $100,000.

Cheers,

Kennith

I totaled my repair receipts for my old D1. $12000 over three years. I will probably never total receipts again.

The people that buy from those places are all too happy to pay for the reputation, apparent quality on the lot, and the confidence that inspires.

It keeps the mystique alive when shopping from memory or heritage. They're not stupid, but they do have other things on their mind, and the second a car becomes a hassle, it's no fun anymore. The point at which it becomes a hassle varies, but it can be as early as discussing service history or having to endure a feature explanation.

They don't have much free time, and they have learned to use it to it's fullest potential. We all move a little toward that direction as we age.

Cheers,

Kennith

I bought the truck from an estate auction. Basically a barn find. Truck had been stowed away for about 10 years according the Virginia state inspection sticker. It would not start and some of the paint on the hood was looking bad. It also had some common flaws such as sagging headliner, non-working seat ECU, DOA air bags, and a battery drain. But the interior was clean and complete, no noticeable rust anywhere including in the rear gate and hatch, and the body was straight.

I had some paint work done and I fixed most of the issues. Then sent to the truck down to Joel Mercer for proper cleaning, detailing, and general maintenance he felt necessary to get top dollar resell. Joel had the truck about 5/6 weeks and once finished, yes, absolutely, the extra money I spent with him definitely brought the truck up in value - probably as much as $12k on my end. I really don't believe I could have gotten what Copley sold the truck for. We all did well on the sell of this truck, IMO.

I've considered letting Copley sell my D1 if anyone is interested before I go that route. '95 5spd with 65K miles, super clean. Would be a fourth of the price of that one they sold. PM for inquires.
