Am I really asking about tire sizes?

Some 20+ years ago I built up then sold a Disco 1 that I had spent hours upon hours figuring out exactly how I wanted to build it.

Of course, like many goof balls, I sold it for a tremendous loss.

So, fast forward to today. I currently have a 2" OME lift on my current D1 and my 13 year old 31" Goodyear Duratracs need to be replaced. One sidewall blew out, so I put that on the spare and 2 years later another sidewall blew out, so with only three working tires, time for new ones. ;)

Since I have put 4.10 gears in this rig, the 31's are spinning quite quickly and not helping my MPG's on the highway. I would like to put on 33's and keep my current 15x8 rims which I believe have some amount of positive offset, maybe an inch. These are the American Racing ones that were sold years ago from Great Basin or Gulf Coast or some Rover specialist that was having them custom made. Been looking at the Pantagonia MT's 33x12.5x15 or getting another set of Duratracs, or something else. Also open to 33x10.5x15's if anyone still makes them.

I don't want to do the whole RoverTym route I did last time (when I did it right) which included a 3" lift, castor corrected radius arms, trailing links and an A-Arm extension. With all of that I fit 33x12.5 super swampers with minimal trimming.

I am willing to trim more to get the tires on and make them fit - seems like many others have accomplished 2" lifts with 33's and trimming - seem like a reasonable plan?

I have those same 15x8s on 35s and did those big dumb fender flares with RT 5" stuff. I can't see not hacking the fenders and having it clear a 12.5" wide tire with that offset. I wish you luck because I'd like to see it. Even with just the D2 flares that I tried first it still rubbed quite a bit up front.

You did 35's, right? I am looking to do 33's. If you check my link in the first post you will see I fit 33x12.5 swampers with the 3" RTE lift, radius arms, trailing link, and a-arm extension and very minor trimming.

I actualy test fit a single 33x12.5r15 Super Swamper TSL radial today, which is larger than most 33's, especially ones that are more AT's than MT's. We put it on and flexed it with the fork lift front and rear and the rear will need some minor trimming near the back of the wheel well while the front may need some minor trimming as well. Will know for sure when I get my tires mounted - Mastercraft Courser CXT's. I will report back in two weeks - appointment is on Thursday, July 13.

You don’t need fender flares to fit 33/35’s if you’re careful and do some moderate trimming to the rear arches front and back. I ran 315/75/16 on stock alloys and 30mm(?) spacers. The tires tucked completely into the wheel wells when stuffed.

My first build was Stage II SG lift with SG bumpers and 33s. It was perfect. If I could go back in time, I would have left it alone. I did have to trim the rear quarters for the bumper. I think this was that phaseIMG_1380.jpeg

By the way, here is how the 33" Super Swamper looks up front from during the screwing around test fitting 33's. Just needs a little trimming and the big lugs did hit the radius arms at full turn, but that can be adjusted with bump stops. The lugs on the CXT's are smaller and the overall diameter and width is a little smaller, so probably not going to be an issue.

That's not bad at all. And you need to adjust the bump stops just for 235/85s......and "camel cut" the rear arches to tuck them.

Got the tires installed today. They actually may be a bit wider than my test fit of the swampers, but slightly shorter at the outer lug. Will have to flex it with the forklift to find out and trim. Feels good to be back in a rover with 33's. The 31's just seem to puny for the body.

I had a set of these wheels (bought at Gulf Coast Rovers, made by Unique). 3/4" of positive offset. Even 245/75s contacted the rear quarters at full stuff, with 2" of lift.

265/75r16 or 31.6" tires thought I would share. F/R Caster arms, bump stops, trimmed some before I lifted 3". I haven't rubbed any after lifting it. 40mph ecu / 45mph GPS stock gearing.
