Here's the deal. 2001 D2 has been running nice and cool since I replaced the tstat and fan clutch. A few weeks ago while on a wheeling tripI noticed my temps get to 208. Which it NEVER does! It was a hot day and I was playing on a rock garden.
The temps eventually went back down so I didn't think much of it. Then on the 100 mile ride home, I once again noticed it was running warmer ( 195-199) when it usually runs 188.
That was a few weeks ago, Drove the truck again today around town and noticed its still running 10 or so degrees warmer than Im used to.
It seems to mostly be while under load. Highway speeds, or AC on, or heavy wheeling.. etc. At lower speeds just cruising, ( less load) its close to normal, although a tad warmer.

The radiator was replaced about 7yrs ago
The tstat is a LR original 180 installed around the same time.
Fan clutch is about 3yrs old
No coolant leaks.
Water pump is not original, but I have no idea when it was last replaced. Probably close to 15yrs ago..

Is it same to say these symptoms sound like a failing water pump? Its the only part of the cooling system that hasn't been replaced somewhat recently.

I know the truck is not running hot, but its definitely hotter than its run previously in the same conditions.

I should add that at idle it sits at 197-199 and it takes it a while to get up to those temps.

Water pumps usually fail completely and get inefficient over time. 208F isn't very hot IMO. I think the fans on a D1 don't even come on until over 210F.

I agree those temps are not hot, but they are warmer by 10 degrees to what they were even just a month ago. 197 at 70mph with the windows down and AC off is not right. It normally runs 188-190 all day down the highway. 194-197 would be normal with the AC on, but thats with it off. It gets above 200 with it on.

It feels like something is not running as efficiently as it once was. Nothing has failed yet.. just trying to address it before it does.

Back in May I drove it 6hrs to Tennessee and it never ran even close to warm. Wheeled all weekend and drove home again with nothing even close to warm. Two weeks later I drove 4 hrs to the outerbanks. Again. 188 the whole way and even while driving on the sand in direct sun.
That's why I think its strange that it all of sudden is running warmer.

If it's not boiling over keep going. I don't think any of those temps are bad. It's 40 degrees hotter than normal and your truck is running 10 degreees warmer than normal. If you really feel the need to spend money you could just send it to me.

The money, not the truck.
