none of your fucking business
I've been saying it for a few years now. People will be paying high dollar for a nice unmolested XJ in 10-15 years...

They're by far the last of the good Jeep SUV's (wrangler excluded)

That picture looks like $1500 worth of pure fun.

I think that's actually the best vehicle Jeep ever made. It may be one of the best vehicles anyone has made in it's class.

I sold my 95 XJ (complete stripper, 4-banger, 2WD, stick shift, manual windows, no A/C) in 2000 and regretted it ever since.
That said...
I believe the XJ Cherokee is the best sensible vehicle produced by the U.S. auto industry - but if you plan on off-roading one seriously, you'll regret it soon and badly. Everything will fall apart.

I've owned a CJ and a Wrangler and loved them, Hadn't really fucked with the Cherokee. When the kid turned 16 we went and test drove a few as a first vehicle. Didn't get one for him but I'm thinking about it. I mean if you're going to mod a vehicle there's not much better than a Jeep. I have a Colorado that's about at the end of it's DD life. I've thought about modding it but my options are few and really expensive. I can get a lift for a Cherokee for $300-3000 plus and everything in between. Same for bumpers etc. Led headlights. roof racks, on and on. The aftermarket for Jeep is like no other.

I'd be interested to know why you say that. People I know that have had them say they are bulletproof.

Don't do it.
A properly functioning stock Cherokee, like a stock Disco, is a beautiful thing. It does not take upgrades lightly - the body is stiff but lightweight, so getting heavier axles will make the ride ridiculous. Bolting too much external protection is also less beneficial than it would be on a body-on-frame vehicle.
The control arms in an XJ's suspension are ridiculously short, so if you want really some lift out of it, you have to torch off the body mounts and weld on new ones with longer arms.
And when you do that, you run into ends of driveshafts traveling in arches (through suspension travel) never intended from the factory.

Headlights and a reasonable roof rack will get you a very capable camping truck.

I worked with a 27 year Jeep mechanic for a while. He said the XJ was the most reliable Jeep by a long shot. I'll stick with Land Rovers for myself.

Thanks, all that is good to know. I wasn't going to get one and mod it into the ultimate trail rig. At this point in my life looks really, but I thought some "improvements" would be nice. Glad to know the limitations. Really, thanks.

I prefer to drive diesels - three generations of diesel power and my LR3 which I sold to a friend.

1 Rover is more than enough for me! It already takes up most of my free time. Cant imagine having 2 other trucks that always need something!
As for the Cherokee. Great engine, shitty axles and no "frame".
